Large / Re: Coupler Help!
March 25, 2009, 04:42:08 PM
You said you have Bachmann rolling stock in both 1:24 and 1:20.3? Is it possible that you meant 1:22.5 which is the scale of Bachmann's regular rolling stock and has couplers that are truck mounted the same level as LGB and Delton? The reason I ask this is that Fn3 (1:20.3) Spectrum cars are scaled quite a bit larger and have body mounted couplers that are at a different height! Bachmann makes a coupler that is offset so that a body mounted coupler will mate at the same height as a truck mounted one. If that is your problem then this might be your solution.

Fear not! Bachmann G scale is ideal for outdoor weather! In fact, they run Bachmann all over the place in Phoenix where the temps reach 120! The sun won't turn 'em into globs of plastic! Now, that being said, Bachmann track is not suitable for outdoor use! You will need to find some solid brass, aluminum or stainless steel track (many manufacturers and options so do the research) that can stand the elements. My advice would be to check out the on-line large scale websites first and then locate any LS clubs near your area! Not only is this an excellent resource but it's a great way to make new friends!

Looking sweet! Barry's BBT drive combined with the Phoenix digital sound really adds to an already great model to make it a truly superb unit!!

When I asked in December when they thought the Long Caboose would show up on dealer's shelves, the Bach-man responded that my guess of April sounded "...about right..." so (hopefully) we shouldn't have too long to wait!

Forgive my ignorance but what is a CCC?

Technically, the model is a Meyer but was the original design from Baldwin for the D&RGW (which was never built) a Mallet or a Meyer? If the first, then my vote would be to call it the "Mallet" (correctly pronounced "Mal-lay") or if the second, just "Meyer."

Large / Re: Durango & Silverton OK for Outdoors?

The Durango & Silverton train from Bachmann is made to be run outdoors. As stated in the earlier post, you will need to get track that is made for outside use as the Bachmann track is strictly for inside use. As to r/c trains, if it's one that you are seeing at a toy store then you made the right choice in getting the Bachmann engine! That r/c train IS a toy and isn't meant for outdoor railroading.

Large / Spectrum Long Caboose - Any idea when?
December 20, 2008, 02:21:43 PM
Dear Bach-man,
First, let me wish everyone at Bachmann a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I see that the Mallet is going to make it under our trees in time for Christmas and I was wondering if you have any idea when we might expect the Long-Caboose to arrive? I understand that production in China halts for the whole month of January. If the Caboose is not ready for shipment before then (and I think we won't be surprised if this is the case) it would seem that the soonest we will see it would be April or possibly even May 2009. Could you give us a better idea when we could expect it's arrival?

Thanks!

Fear not! The K-27 does indeed have opening doors!

You may be out of luck as the Climax has been out of production for almost a decade. Bachmann didn't keep a bin of replacement parts to repair these models.

I think that the idea is that if one dealer has them then they all will be having them very shortly! Give your dealer a call and you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

How about the one where it starts out, "I never thought this would ever happen to me..." Guys, I really think that this thread is not doing anything!! Any speculation now wouldn't be taken seriously anyhow!  :P

The Mallet IS going to be produced. They have a prototype model that they have shown at shows. It's not still in the concept stage as was the case with the Vulcan. Rest assured that it WILL be produced.

Large / Re: 4-6-0 sound upgrade

Yes, Phoenix, Soundtraxx's Sierra Dallee, QSI etc.... These are aftermarket high end digital systems that are as or even more expensive than the set but they bring a whole new dimension to a Bachmann locomotive! They are digital sound recordings with "all the bells and whistles" (literally!) They can be triggered by changes in track power or by external triggers (such as magnets) and they are an excellent addition when combined with battery power and r/c!
Another way is to go DCC. I'm not a DCC guy so I'll let others chime in here.
