When I was a kid I never saw a diesel until I was almost 12 years old.  The train I was on had a diesel until we got to Oklahoma City.  I didn't see another one until after the war.  Places like Steam town is a good place to see what steam was like.  They run steam locomotives but they don't really work steam locomotives.

Just go with the Kadee coupler with pockets and be done with it.

In side of roundhouses was a big blackboard.  on this blackboard was a line for each track.  On this line was written information on needed repairs that needed to be made.  So you do the same thing.  If you only have 6 locomotive you just assign to a track and that is it. 

Let me ask you what happened to the cylinder assembly?  Some one might tell you how to fix it.

Correct me if I am wrong.  On DC your would need two DPDT switches.  One for layout and one for the reversing loop.  Then you would not use the directional switch on the power pack.
on DCC you would only need one.

Well I guess it is like, how much water does it take to fill up my glass.  Well how big is your glass.   How big is your layout?  If it is 4 by 8 I would say at the most two feeders.  I don't use E Z track, if I did, I don't think I would solder it.
