Thanks! Sounds like finding where I put them will be the hardest part.

Nice job! Any special problems you ran into? I have a pair sitting around, and would love to take a try at it.

HO / Re: Spectrum SY 2-8-2 and Vanderbilt tender
September 16, 2009, 11:31:26 AM
I was going to, the SY uses a very different drawbar then most Bachmann Spectrum locomotives (and hence tenders) it reminds me of the one they use on Standard line steamers. Of coarse you'll need to swap the circuit boards, but the drawbar would be the hardest part, you'd probally have to fabricate a new one. If you want I could get pictures of it for you. I finally gave up on it, so I'm just going to try to sell it, and get one of those lovely ones from BLI.

Dear Bill,
It won't take long for someone like Backwoods Miniatures to come out with a great conversion, though!
Have fun!

I sure hope you're right, I'm sure I could find a place for one if they came out with a kit with good proportions.

I second that one! I'd prefer a 2-8-2 of similar size, but one or two of these would be very welcome!

It'll be fine with that amount of power, the only thing to worry about will be clearence, ie: bridges, close tracks, tunnels since the ON30 is bigger then HO standards.

Wasn't the Bachmann C&O George Washington set a special run?
Yes, but they don't sell for much over the original retail price, even now that they are discontinued.

I don't own the others, but I have a IHC 2-10-2 is it's awonderful model, will take 18" radius no problem, and looks half decent on 22",  not the best detail, but it's one of the sturdiest runners around, and, based off of what I've read compared to my own tests, will pull more then the PK2, and as much if not more then the Bachmann. Just my 2Cs

By hand yes, they don't operate automatically (ie: like Lionel operating cars). However if you are insterested in that you might want to check this out.

I'm still hoping for the P.F.E reefer

(that's Polar Fruitcake Express in case you're wondering  :D )
Didn't think of one of those, I don't think it's prototypical (corect me if I'm wrong), but that would be very cool!

HO / Re: Industries for the new layout
August 05, 2009, 08:56:18 PM
Well, I live in western Washington, and do a fair amount of railfanning, about 75% of the trains are intermodals, I don't know how much space you have, a intermodal terminal would take up alot of space but would be very cool. We also get lots of grain trains, these come from eastern Washington(technically the Northwest, but with scenery more like the mid west) and take their contents to unloading facilities, usually in Seattle or Tacoma. Although not to the extent it used to be, lumber is still a major industries, you could model it with box cars getting filled at a mill, and taken to a warhouse for distribution. We also have a oil plant, that moves the cargo from train to ship. Coal isn't a Major industry, but there is a coal fired power plant in southern Washington that gets two trains a week, these would have to be run from staging, since the coal comes from Wyoming, and is not mined locally. We also have several paper mills, this could be tied to the lumber industry since the traffic originates from the same place.
Hope this helps,
Ryan

Thank you so much for putting the website back together! I've been missing it even over this short time.

I don't know about the model, but a Amtrak 4449 is aucrate. On her way back from being part of the 76 freedom train, Amtrak sponsered the trip, as such the locomotive stayed in Freedom Train colors, but had Amtrak painted in small black letters on the side of the tender.

Is a favorite of mine, it only deals with surviving steam locomotives, but you can still get lots of ideas from it.

It will take 22" just fine, I haven't tested it below that.
