Thank you Bill.  That is what I will ask for.

BTW, visited a local museum yesterday.  They were gifted a 25 year old train setup that was used just three weeks a year!!  Must be 60 feet by 20 feet.  Very impressive.

Bill,

I found my receipt.  Bought from Sam's Club, on line for $136.24 12/2/2005.

I checked the box again and it is indeed 90041.  That is a fact.  However I know I bought it on-line and THINK it was from Sam's club.

I'll see if I can find my receipt.

Bill you are absolutely correct.  I bought the set at Sam's club and I only need the cover.  The number on the box is 90041.  Will the 4-6-0 anniversary cover fit this unit also?

Coincidentialy, I am in need of a chassis for my North Star Express 90041 that I bought in 2005.  In the parts catalog I could not find a chassis for 90041.  I sent Bachmann an e-mail for assistance.  I just need the 16 inch piece that has the cowcatcher attached.  No wheels needed.

Bill, can you tell me what part number I will need?

Yes switch is on.  I checked George's tips.  I'll look for that alternative unit.

Large / Smoke on North Star Express
December 21, 2012, 04:31:32 PM
Hi everyone,

In 2005 I bought my set.  Smoke worked.  I ran out of oil and never used smoke again until today when I received new Bachmann oil.  I put in 20 drops turned smoke switch on....and no smoke.

Could have a burnt out smoke unit.  I see there is a better LGB smoker available.

So, how can I test if my unit is shot?

Thanks

Ok, I took the train to my workbench.  One OEM spring was broken and one of that parts where the OEM spring is inserted into was gone.  One hook was backwards.  So I bought metal 1/4" springs and inserted them with thin wire X 2.  I reversed the backwards hook.  Twenty trips around the track and they are all holding.

This my eight year with the set.  After we're done with it I hope one of my kids take it.

Thanks for the help......now just to keep them from derailing......almost there

Bummer.  I think I'll try a homemade fix.  I think a thin wire will work but will be bad for de-coupling.  I'll look for thin long springs.  If I can find them I think they will work well.

Hey Joe and Narrow -  thanks for the hookups on the hookups.  Seems like a nice community you are in.

Back to the knuckles - I kind of like them and they are cheap.  I think I can fit them or adapt them to my set.  Seems everyone on both sites favor the hook and loop though.  Think the knuckles are worth the try?

Thanks again Bill;

Would be nice if I could just buy that zig zag piece.

Seems that I may be able to get the knuckle coupler to fit.  Or maybe rig up a replacement zig zag part.

Either way I'll get it done and get rid of the cable ties.

The zig zag plastic part that enables the hook to be up/down flexible falls off.

Thank you for your response.

Original set had different ones - maybe loop and hook?

Should I give the 92420 a shot?
