Title: B Unit Loco Help
Post by: jgschmieg3 on July 15, 2011, 10:43:23 PM
Recently purchased the HO SCale Bachmann Erie DCC Equipped A and B units.  The A unit is working fine, but the B unit is pretty loud and spins in place.  The A unit is just pulling the B unit around the track.  Can anyone help?

Adjust the CVs to speed match the locos.

does the b unit move by itself? if it doesn't then you have mechanical issues.

if these are standard bachmann decoders you may not be able to speed match. you can set cv2, which is start voltage, and the acceleration and deceleration cvs 3 & 4, but apparently they don't support cv5 max voltage or cv6 mid range voltage. thus you can't slow the b unit down to match the a unit or vice versa.

Spins in place?  Is this when it is on the track by itself?  If so, and all wheels spin, then something must be catching the track, such a a low coupler.  But if it spins the wheels on only one truck, then you are more likely to have problems with a drive shaft, universal joint or gear on one end of the locomotive.  If the B-unit spins its wheels only when connected to the A-unit, then either the A-unit is running slower than the B-unit (and the B-unit is pushing the A-unit around the track) or the B-unit's wheels are turning in the opposite direction compared to the A-units wheels (review the manual on how to consist locomotives.)  Another possibility is that the B-unit has no decoder.  This short list of possibilities is far from all inclusive.  More details would give us a better chance to guess what your problem is.
