I think it would go great with the other Old time locos....John Bull,Dewitt Clinton,Perussia,ect.....

Come on Bachmann........

Who else is making them ?..... open market......

I bet it would sell just fine ,,,we could slap a Z decoder in it....... 8o)

Who must be paid off in congress to get this done?......

I don't want a old crappy running version with a 3 pole slot car motor in it....

So I'm out of luck unless someone tools up!

How about it Bachmann?.....HO scale  STEPHENSON'S ROCKET

Or a larger scale......

I would buy it in a heartbeat...if it was NOT standard line........

Steam era for me please.......long before the sludge sippers took their first sip of DinoLube......I hate em forever for taking the boilers off the tracks.....

The Feds and their "Rule Book" on steam paid for by big oil....(?)

A running Steam engine makes me tear up for some reason.......Majestic

I wanted to cry when i first saw Hornbys Live steam for HO demo video.......

Something about the raw mass of Iron and the many broken backs it took to build these Living monsters......mens lives to raise iron from ore to ride a rail!

This was real ,hard, dangerous, men were men stuff.

Seeing my first Steam loco years ago still shocks me ..These beasts to me are the most fascinating machines mankind has built......Aside from the Saturn rockets maybe,Or was that photoshop? hahahah

I sit in awe sometimes when i run my stationary steam engines....My kit built horizontal boiler (3 inch dia. with 5 flue tubes) has hand set rivets and it was a labor of love to build it.

Seeing it reach 60 PSI and blow-off in the winter weather was a sight!

...... sorry for the rant....... Steam era for me ! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sniffle.......Sniffle........born to late......

Thanks for the welcome back fellas.

Im not in Canada..... I just scored the Hudsons so cheap it could'nt be helped 8o).....Ebay deal led to phone conversation with seller and big savings 8o).

I will post some pics in time of the first bash ....and the second as soon as i am done.

They are fine running locos...Mehano pre-IHC.

But i have had one IHC "Consolidation" that wore its chassis bad where the axles ride.......so i shimmed it with brass.......

Not sure if it was my fault....I was sure i used LaBell lubes on it...but she wore bad.....maybe somewhere i screwed up and used the wrong stuff and ate up that chassis .???

Now i have some .005 Teflon i will try.....but keeping it in that small of a area might be a pain.....

Anyhooooooo

3 will remain Canadian Green 5702's , as 1 is my sons ,1 is DCC now and the other is DC for the tree at Christmas.

As for the conversion ,I strip em down into a bowl ect....

And re-wire every stitch , Lights,Smoke and motor (and soon sound) are all hardwired , on/off micro switch under smoke box  for the smoke generator is disconnected and smoke wired to a DCC function output on the decoder,So i can smoke it if i want.......works fine with NCE decoder.

Then Strip the shell of the "smoke ears" and running board side plates(all glued),all handrails and stand offs ,same for tender, wood walkboards ect removed.

Then paint and re-assemble......

When I am done i will have 3 (2 bashed into freight service) on DCC ....and 1 DC un-bashed for the tree.

Should keep me in Hudsons for a while even if they are a bit off in the specs and valvegear/crosshead dept.

I'm no rivet counter......Just runnin' mu trainzzzzz

Hello old Freinds......

I just have taken a small break from any layout work and this board for no real reason ....I have ran my trains a bit to keep em working...and had old Marx 666 027 under the Tree last year.

I got back into stationary Live steam engines and such ,and have been tinkering with them...Wilescos and Kit boilers from PM Research ect.

I'm getting back to work on the layout/stock soon...I just ordered 3 sound only decoders to get me going on installs of trains that are running already with a non sound decoder.

And am working on a second Mehano (pre IHC) Hudson kitbash to Freight service (mini chefs Pres Choice Canadian loco).

I landed 5 mint/un-used engines and tenders in Canadian National  green trim. (2 with all rolling stock from the set also)....So i have a lot to tinker with...they come with can motor/flywheel/seuthe smoker locos, just like IHC makes em and calls em Premiere...

Anyhoooooooo  ::)

Hello to all the new members and old freinds....... ;D

Don,t overlook car weight as cause for derail........the pushing side force issue can sometimes be fixed with more lead in the car.

Just an idea .....not the rule.

Don't let ebay sellers see that link..they might find out why their engines don't sell, you can buy a set cheaper.

Bachmann Plus chassis is different than the old "80s" chassis........not even close.

The plus chassis is a chassis mounted plastic bracket(inserted into cast metal chassis via a slot/tab retention) with the coupler held in by a removable retainer clip.

Old 80s chassis is truck mounted twist in horn hook coupler with whisker spring molded on it.

As to a kayde part i have no info sorry.....I just cut the hornhooks so they mate with the new knuckles........Yes it can be done, dremmel and knife away at one and bingo.

Kinda like a magic mate from IHC they mate with hornhooks or knuckles.....handy little fellas.

Shure Bob.........quote away 8o)

Warning Rant ahead.....One madmans view of the cosmos....In response to reading posts that suggest we just fix things
and accept defects and lack of quality.

I decided i am going to let it(motive power) run next time i get a "bad" one and then send in the remains to be replaced.

I can fix alot of stuff...And i enjoy it...And have fixed alot of "B's" Stuff.I own mostly Bachmann, due to price and replacement policy....and im comfortable fixing/tuning  them. But i like knowing i can get another if all else fails.

Id rather fix than return........I love the challenge......But some things like out of round wheels....off center gears and axles ect .......are Un-fixable without major tools and parts. And such parts should never leave a modern factory in this day and age.

One off center gear or wheel ruins even the best $3000 detailed loco,Or $50 trainset.

I once built a MDC Roundhouse kit that included a herald Sagami motor from the factory.........Great until i found the wheels to be round as eggs and the axle gear was off center...Sagami or not this loco was crap and it was their fault. And they wanted to blow me flack about it........Fine ....I never purchased nor will purchase a MDC product again.....as much as i liked kit locos.

Avoid MDC kit locos........Unless you have a lathe and don't mind lowering the ride height of the loco after you true the wheels up.

ISO 2 billion point 45 and yet our factory cannot machine a wheel on center.

My son has $3.00 toys with wheels truer than most Steam engines. Its a shame.

Hes got a micro aaa cell powered toy train with switches that work properly and wheels that roll true.....and the entire "layout" was less than $40.And a 6 year old can run it and it works fine (he has no tools to tweek things).

........sorry guys.....But we really should not accept crap products from anyone.

Do you pay a roofer hard earned cash if your roof still leaks? And figure you will just get the ladder out and "tweek it" yourself as usual.

many edits later I quit........

Nothing but rolling generators..........Welders on wheels......Gimme Steam Any Day.I do like the looks of The F units.......even though they killed off the boilers,The rest of the sludge sippers look horrid.

I will never forget riding our Nickel Plate here in indiana. What a machine!

The belts are the first stage of the gear reduction......it then drives a worm shaft to the drive wheel gear.

Once lubed (bushings) and broken in they are ok.
