I have been told that Box Car Red or brown. Depends on the number you are doing.

I am doing 903, it was part of my white pass set, which was my first set and would like a ho scale version. I still have it running so i could see it at any angle i want! :)

Visit www.Whitepassfan.net to see pictures of cabooses 901,903, and 905. They are not at all like the Bachmann model. They are all a large steel caboose with an extended vision cupola. The only accurate large scale models I know of (and own) were made by LGB. Bachmann just stuck the 903 number on their bobber caboose.  Caboose 903 was the only one painted in tri colors; red, white, and blue.

All is not lost. Take a look at the site and you will see caboose 909 and 911 are wood with a center cupola. There is a nice picture of 909 when it looked fairly fresh. Looks to be caboose red before it faded. If you wanted to make your large scale caboose appear more prototypical, you could  put the correct number (for a wood caboose) on it.
