I'd like to revive this topic rather than start a new one.

I have a Bachmann setup. I have a layout of >100 pieces of track Four DCC engines and a few DC engines that I run one at a time with four DCC turnout/crossovers. Every so often, one of my DCC Crossovers quits working. If I power cycle, it comes back. Its not the only turnout to do this but it is the one that does it 90% of the time.

Oddly that same frequent offender DCC crossover also switches itself when the power comes on to reroute my train. I've reconfigured the default position of this crossover but, after a while, it goes back to its old habits so the reconfigure doesn't stick permanently.

Is this a problem with my crossover or is it a problem with a mix of DCC devices as suggested above?
Is it just general flakiness with DCC and to be expected or could it be that 2.5amps is not enough for my layout?

I'm not sure what my expectations should be so I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

HO / How Do You Power a 15" ( 15r ) Circle?
April 04, 2011, 08:30:23 PM
I have a section on my table for a 15" circle. Unfortunately I don't have room for 9" straights so I'm wondering how to power it. I don't see any 15" curved terminals either. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

So which one matches up to the 22" curves?

Was this ever released? I've found a few sites that show it but don't have it in stock. One says back ordered until May.

I searched online and found a capacitive discharge unit but I still don't know what it is or does. Care to explain?

It occurs to me that he Bachmann product info does not state the radius of the turnouts. What are the dimensions of the different turnouts?

So which DCC turnouts do you use? #4,5,6?

I've read elsewhere about some odd DCC behavior with the turnouts (maybe here?). However, it is encouraging that they at least do not derail. Which ones do you use?

My manual turnout seems to work just fine as well. It's just the remote that has a 100% fail rate. In fact, it is so bad, I wonder if I just got a defective part.

jward,

Thanks for the clarification. I should have been more clear myself that I was just passing along the report and that I don't know exactly what to do myself. Looking at my turnout, however, I wonder if I need to file the end of the point off. It looks like the point contacts the rail before the tip and then bows a bit away. I'm not sure sharpening it is going to do any good. This may be an example of individual issues over one size solutions.

Thanks for clarifying, though.

A little more on the topic. Posters at another forum are suggesting that you file the top of the points on your turnout. I haven't tried this but it is something to pursue.

I have some old track that I would use with my Bachmann DCC controller. Some looks like Atlas, others I don't recognize. Anyway, I don't want to modify my existing cable. Are there other cables you can buy? I've seen the occasional used Bachmann non-EZ track that looks like it would work but that's rare.

Any suggestions?

I do not find these answers to be acceptable.

First, my remote turnout derails ~100% of the time.
Second, my manual turnout rarely fails so blaming it on turnouts in general seems to be an over generalization.

This is a product that should not be sold like this.

One thing that helps with the turnouts is to try to have them connected to leading straights. Do not have the track prior to the turnout be a curve. That seems to help.

Push those grey buttons in and you will see that you can slide one of the prongs in.
