General Discussion / Re: 2-10-2 min radius?
June 23, 2007, 11:48:58 AM
Thats fine, as long as it runs. My outer loop has a 22" radius but the inner is 18 and if it wanted to go into the yard it would have to go through part of the curve.

HO / Re: what road names do you model
May 30, 2007, 02:11:37 PM
I model CSX, Conrail, and my Shortline Eastern Maryland. (I dont model any era so my equipment is very mixed)

For CSX I actually model Western Maryland, Since I run about any era It ranges from WM steam era equipment to modern CSX (my oldest loco is a WM 2-10-0 russian decapod, the newest is a CSX SD70m)

Conrail isnt much but a SD-60 and a few freight cars.

Eastern Maryland is my fictional shortline. It runs not only freight but local passenger trains ( I wont allow amtrak on my layout  ;D ). They also run an NG (hon3) tourist train. The loco roster is pretty simple, A RTA (chicago) F40ph (kato), A  NH RS-2 (proto) and a CB&Q GP-7 (also proto  :) ) do the freight work. There is also a Bachmann Doodlebug that makes an apperance here and there on an excursion. As for NG its a lone K-27 (soundtraxx) My layout is on the east coast but EM allows me to run equipment from all across the US (since all the locos are second hand) ;D

This post seems to have strayed from my original question. For the record im covnverting my equipment, All engines (except bachmann) have KD 58's as well as 50% of my freight cars (about 20+to go). Passenger cars have #148's between them and for now McHenry scale couplers on the ends (2 observation cars and a bi-level cab car.)

Anyway it just seemed to me that E-Z mates and McHenry's standard couplers look Exactly the same, I was just woundering if they were made under liscence from Mchenry at bachmann (like how atlas makes their own Accumate couplers)

You're gonna need 18 curve sections (11" radius) as well as some straights. Hope that helps  :)

On30 / Need opinion on On30 Porter
May 11, 2007, 03:22:35 PM
Can anyone offer their opion on the bachmann 0-4-0t? (specifically DCC instalation) Walthers has them on sale for about $50 and I wanted to get back into on30. I dug my 2-6-0 out a few days ago to see why it wouldn't run properly. Turns out the gear is split  :-\  . (plus some of the detail parts have broken off, and all 4 tender step are gone)  Adding to that. But the passenger cars are fine. Right now im dissasembling the 2-6-0 for parts (i plan on putting its dynamo on the porter, possibly also the number plate)  Anychance anyone could provide a photo of the porter coupled to some passenger cars?

Thanks,

Matt(g)  :)

It always made me wounder, are E-Z mates just Mchenry Couplers made under the bachmann name? They are exactly the same in design and color. Can anyone provide an answer?

Aristo-Craft makes an auto reversing unit http://www.aristocraft.com/catalog/track/images/ART-11090%20Reversing%20Unit.jpg .  Essentially you place the rearailers at the ends of your layout. THey are insulated in the middle so when the train completes the circuit the unit is tripped stopping the train for an adjustible time, then it reverses direction and returns power.

Ive got a blackstone k-27 with sound on order now (undec) , from what i heard its gonna be mid april to early may, but there never absolute. I ordered mine last fall and back then it was going to be released around thanksgiving, then after that the begining of the year, then Feb, then March , etc... So Im confident that in 2009 they will be shiped out  ;D.

The firts one looks like a forign cousin of UP's bethgons http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/381-1064604  , it creepy how similar they look, other than the chinese one is shorter.  :o
