HO / Re: how to set up DCC with spectrum locos
January 13, 2009, 08:16:29 PM
The ez command is very easy to set up all you so is attach the 2 track wires and plug in the transformer. Programing is also very easy all you do is follow the few instructions. As for the ez companion i never got one so im not sure but i would guess it similar to digitraks so thats as simple as connecting the track wires to the plug module and connecting the command station to the module with phone cable. Thats about it, its nice and easy.

Ive sucsessfully completed that conversion and its really easy, i used kadee #5s with their coupler boxes. first remove the old hook and loop couplers, then and this is the hardest part, you have to file down the peg part that the couplers were screwed into just enough to bring the coupler to propper hight. then after that all to be done is screwing on the new kadee couplers and boxes and youre done. i finish thomas annie and clarabel in under half an hour and they work great.
good luck

HO / Re: Wiring a smoke generator to a dcc decoder?
January 11, 2009, 11:05:29 PM
Alright, thanks I think I have all the required information for the project and I'm really exited. Now if only I could get the quality of smoke in ho as in say g scale locomotives:) it's quite impressive the thickness and realism of smoke in those diesels.

Proto 2000 is a really good quality run of locos, if it was brand new when you got it and it has never really run, I think the best thing to do would be to return it instead of tampering and possibly damaging it.

Oops ya it's a lifelike generator, and I also didn't mention it's being installed in an atlas dash 8-40cw. The loco has a perfect empty space under the exaust stack. I can't find any function leads that have 8-9volts running through them so I think I may bypass the decoder and just run the generator in paralell with the track leads and add a micro switch hidden in the radiator.

Ok great that's what I was hopeing to do. So I'll just have to do some voltage and draw test and I'll be good. As for the film I don't care because my layout is situated in my half done garage so constant track cleaning is all ready required.

HO / Wiring a smoke generator to a dcc decoder?
January 10, 2009, 12:55:02 AM
Hi everyone
I'm trying to install a 8volt smoke generator to a digitrax dh123, but I'm not sure which way is best to connect it or if there's any kind of resistors needed? If anyone knows a bit about this I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks

HO / Re: Kaydee Couplers
December 20, 2008, 08:28:36 PM
from what ive heard and found kadees are the most reliable couplers because of the fact that there made of metal, restraining the coupler from bending up and down like plastic ones do. every time ive installed them it goes pretty smooth and ive found the only hard thing is dealing with the tiny springs, but ive never installed kadees in bachmann cars so it may be a bit harder, plus theres probably added difficulties with the arrticulated couple housing. What i would do is probably replace the bachmann coupler box with the kadee ones. its suprisingly not as hard as it seems. Are the coupler boxes on the cars the full ones or the ones with the open bottom with a piece of plastic down the middle?

Also there's seems to be a few different quility versions of the model, a basic all moleded datails one and the one I'm getting which has all seperatly applied handrails and looks substancially better.

I'm getting a bachmann spectrum undecorated dd40ax but I can't seem to find the model on the website, so is this the old model?
