Well Gene, your not going to like it- but...

"Four pony wheels indicates a passenger engine"

Now when, oh when, did the Union Pacific Big Boy ever pull revenue passenger trains. (Not troop trains.)

I know you meant mostly indicates, but I had to post.

There goes my plan to get some walthers heavyweights for my layout...

Stupid 22" radius curves!

I don't want to wander off topic- But what about the Climax? I have an infamous 6% to a gravel company, and need something to pull 1-2 hoppers up. I've tried with my consolidation, and it has lots of trouble trying to get up.

DJP, I can say otherwise. I own a heavy mountain and I own one of the daylights.

They both can do 18"s, the 4-8-2 needs to have the tender connected throught the rear hole, but it'll do it. The 4-8-4 glides right through, it has lots of sideplay.

Back to the UP 4-12-2, I emailed BLI and they say they're looking into it for maybe 1.5/2.5 years from now.

I've heard that they actually pull more with Tsunami decoders. Apparently the new motor enhancing gives enough to pull 3-5 more cars.

Are you getting your cars from alex?

Gene, I know the feeling. If I have a switch set for curved, and the train is coming from the straight side, it will derail the pilot, even if the switch isn't sprung/held shut.

Even though it's not harriman, I wouldn't mind having it on my layout.

SP RULES!!!

That is a good idea, I believe the P-8s were harriman standards, and would be applicable to UP and IC also.

Paul, I can't read the road number, but if that is SP, I stand corrected.

All I got were pictures of the semi-streamlined engines when I searched:

Southern Pacific 4300 class mountains

Here is UP's real mountain:

And the real SP mountain:

Here's bachmann's light UP mountain:

And here's bachmann's SP heavy mountain.

For bachmann's mountain, I couldn't find just a picture, so I had to make a link.

I don't think they're like the prototype.

I don't much care if it was re-issued... The light UP mountain is probably a mutt just like the heavy SP.
