HO / Re: I need help with steam locomotive

No, it will not. Suck out the oil and replace with about 5 drops to start. Or hol the locomotive upside down for a few.

I did that to a 2-10-2 and iliked the machine somuch,I bought another one and reverse engineere the wires. But my eyes aren't that good anymore.  I kept a "diary "of allthe wires so I have a record next time something like that happens. I imagine BACHMANN would not change wire diagrams for different locomotives.

HO / Re: Model RR club shutting down....maybe
November 02, 2009, 11:28:52 PM
As time is consumed, the club is getting closer to the ultimate question that needs to be addressed.Who owns the club's assets and how far are the  aging founding members willing to travel ?  Just maybe a new face (or faces ) will surface willing to run the club elsewhere with both DC and DCC operations andencourage some levity.( crashing trains into builings modeling brake failures and such )

Two things are killing the enterprise. Expensive builing maintenance and a possible flooding from an aging dam (Howard Hanson Dam)  (loss of real estate ) and community apathy in trains and model railroading.  100 years ago this area was a pinnacle of railroading with any family having more than two members working for the railroad to now, where Burington SantaFe just rumbles thru town. If I was mayor of Cle Elum (North Bend,, Issaquah I woulhave a model railroad in City Hall. The towns mentione were railroad giants in 1900..

HO / Model RR club shutting down....maybe
October 22, 2009, 03:34:14 PM
The Boeing Employees Model Rail Road Club may be shutting down as the company downsizes and shes assets. Need a place to resume operations and that is hard to find here in the NW. Similar fate as the Boeing Employees Midel Airplane club. The average age of the council operating the club is rapidly increasing (most members are retired )  :(

Always measure resistance between railsbefore turning on the power

with some careful thought, you could isolate a MARKLIN catenary system and use a DPDT switch to reverse the signaland feed the red wire  flow for DCC. try it on a breadboard situation first for the possibility of releasing factory smoke in great quantities is possible. . I would love to be on that commitee.

very interesting design problem. If I was the "responsible engineer" I would approach it from the catenary mast as the ground return path and run the black wire (DCC ) to the mast instead of the left rail. I am surethat is  why no one lets me be the responsible engineer, unless the train leavesthe track.

HO / Re: Atmosphere Sounds
September 05, 2009, 01:55:49 PM
That is a cool idea. I have a radial engine start sound in my pickuptruck. Turn it up and my truck has a BMW 801 starting up. May i suggest a aircraft strafing a train soun ? ;D ;D ;D  Wright R3350's make an awesome sound
