N / question about dual mode bachmann decoder
February 06, 2012, 03:31:18 PM
as a newbie to dcc i have finally finished wiring mypresent layout to dcc anf all is well, except i have a new nce power cab &i checked out my bachmann 2-8-0 on the inital start-up address as 3 &all went well, then i got brave and set the loco address to long and again all went well except i cannot run the loco on dc anymore. i am sure i said no to dc programming so my question is if i set any more locos to just the 3 address or set the set-up address in my dcc power cab to dc  will i be able to still use the locos on dc as well as dcc. sorry for the long rant but being an older person ,new technolagy comes real slow ,but am eager to learn. hopefully someone here on the forum will be able to explain this issue to me.
many thanks  regards&later KEWATIN

KEWATIN back to you
perhaps i am not being clear, so i will re state my layout is wired for dcc but at the present time iam using a kato dc pack wired to the dcc imput till i get my nce power cab delivered. also i have not touched the decoders in any way shape or form. after looking at various bachmann 2-8-0 connie stats etc i am convinced it should start to move with less than 9.4 volts according to my multi meter and it will only pull 3 standard size  passenger cars at  this voltage and speeds up slightly more at the full 12 volts. again all my other equipment dcc&dc run fine andthis is the reasoning for running dc  at the present so as to be in the game electrically &mechanically before going completely dcc and all turned out well, no issues track or electric.only problem is the bachmann dcc2-8-0. many thanks to all those that responded,it is a new learning cure for me as this is my first foray into dcc.

KEWATIN here, yes at present i am operating on my new layout that is wired for dcc, also i have 2 other BACHMANN loco's a heavy mountain,&santa fe all dual mode which operate fine with no problems, maybe it could be a decoder problem, iwill await more replys before sending back my loco to the service dept for evaluation. thank you all for your replys.

i have a recently purchased    A BACHMANN DCC 2-8-0'that won't start to move until my KATO POWER PACK shows 9.3 volts on my volt meter. i have broken the loco in with suggested break-in times & even loosened the 2 screws on the bottom plate to see if it makes a difference, but to no avail. also i am under the impression that this loco will pull approx 15 to 20 cars on level track, mine pulls 3 riverossi heavey weight cars and thats about it. with 12 volts dc it is definately no speed demon, more like a turtle. no sign of binding.i think maybe a bad motor? i am of the mindset to send it back to bachmann but would like some imput from those whom know more tnan me or have experience with these type of problems. thanking you in advance for your replys,

To all whom have responded, a great big thank you.good information and i will try casting my molds with plaster-paris first to see the outcome.i have also used drywall mud, especially on my woodlan scenics inclines &it worked out very well with miminal sanding to give a smooth surface. i am using &carving foam and will attach my various rock mold castings with liquid nails and then brush drywall compound on every thing, then paint with a latex brown paint before airbrushing the final colours.
I can't give enough thanks to all those whom responded.

Because i am 140 miles from nearest hobby shop it is impractical to drive this distance  to purchase, where as locally i can purchase a 5 lb box of plaster -paris for $4.99. what results can i expect using the plaster -paris over the lite weight hydracal.  any different mold prep and i have feeling the castings using the plaster-paris will in all probability be not as strong, but i am between a rock &a hard place. any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.

i am curious to what most modellers use for a release agent for there woodland scenics rock molds, their instructions are a little confusing, do i use a spray bottle of water with 2 drops of liquid detergent  to spray molds or add the detergent drops to the hydacal pour. i have also assumed that you spayed on a release agent first. as i don't want to damage my molds any help regarding the above question would be most helpfull.

I have several n gauge bachman decoder equiped locos and am curious if i can change the cv codes for start-up and speed control with my dcc nce power cab? OR  do i need tp put in a more compatible  decoder.my understanding is i can program the bachman decoder other than standard forward-backward,lites on &off .here's hoping i can change the speed sequencing. ::)

hace been buying numerous BACHMANN n scale locos lately and noticed i had 10 days to register, well the 10 days has passed and i still haven't sent them off and now cannot find some of the cards/i do have the original bill &shipping notice. will my purchases still be warrented &it would be so much easier to register on-line. please give it future consideration.

can i swap tenders from mountain loco with 6 wheel vandy to my 2-10-2 and visa a versa, as i would like my CNR 2-10-2 to look as much as possible like a 4100 class engine. both locos are dcc, can i just unplug the connector pins from tender or am i looking at more problems than i anticipated.any help would be greatly appreciated. regards&later KEWATIN
