HO / Re: Trolleys and DCC

We have run Bachmann trolleys, both the Birney and the Peter Witts on overhead wire in DC and DCC and have not had any problems with them.  We have also adapted a couple of the cheap Bachmann Brill trolleys to run off the wire and they run remarkably well.

also be aware that the LEDs might be wired backward.  They will only work one way, unlike incandescents.

HO / Bachmann decoders
October 07, 2013, 07:17:07 PM
Anybody know why the Bachmann decoders sometimes won't program?  We are using Decoder Pro with a computer through a Digitrax system and are having problems programming a Bachmann 0-6-0.  A member of our club called Bachmann and he was told that the Bachmann decoder couldn't be programmed.  We are using an Easy DCC system on our layout, but the programmer isn't working.  The Decoder Pro will program anything but this 0-6-0.  Anybody else having this problem and what are you doing about it short of installing a decent decoder?

The 4-8-4 I have is the standard line Santa Fe Northern type.

My question was on the difficulty of replacing the headlight.  I know all about LEDs and resistors and 12 volt bulbs and their heat output.  Is it difficult to access the old headlight bulb in order to replace it with an LED? What do I need to do to get the shell off so that I can access the headlight bulb?

Thanks to those who replied to my question.  I think I can install the decoder in the tender and run the wiring to the loco.  I did this with an 0-6-0 and it runs beautifully.  The only drawback is the wires running from the tender to the loco.

How difficult is it to change out the front headlight bulb/LED on the standard DCC on Board 4-8-4?  I installed a sound unit in the loco and it immediately blew the headlight.

Does anyone out there know if the standard Bachmann 2-6-2 Prairie with smoke unit is also DCC ready?

Thanks to James in Florida for the heads up on the GP7.  I appreciate the quick reply.  That will surely help.

I have a new Bachmann GP7 with DCC on board.  I wish to repiant the loco's shell but I can't get the shell off the frame.  Anyone have any hints?
