Title: Casey's store 40th Anniversary train set
Post by: hotrainlover on November 04, 2009, 01:53:48 PM
I see that there is a special run on the shelves at Casey's stores.  Does anyone know the specs on the locos, for this set?  Is it DCC ready, have a flywheel drive, or can be converted to DCC?  if anyone knows let me know!!
Thanks,
hotrainlover

If no one can give you a straight forward answer, may I suggest reading what it says on the box.  If the box does not say the locomotive has flywheels or all wheel pickup and drive, or DCC on board, then assume that it does not.

As to whether or not it can be converted to DCC, I would say yes.  I have yet to see an H0 locomotive that could not have a decoder added.  It is just that some are harder than others.

The box does not say what type loco is used....(Standard, Spectrum...ect)  It just says it has 8 wheel drive.  It also has a constant light...  Can the Bachmann find out what units are used with the Special runs?

If I had to bet, I'd say it would be a standard line loco. It most likely does not have DCC, it most likely is not DCC-ready, but it probably has 1 flywheel. I'd bet it would be like converting a non-dcc ready loco, but the space available will dictate the size of the decoder (you may have to use an N scale decoder).

Comperable standard set (Casey's set has two more pieces of track)

not a bad price, with proceeds going to charity according to their site.
