Title: Contact brushes
Post by: sailorguy on August 15, 2011, 06:08:48 PM
Can the contact brushes for an N guage 36-B engine be replaced ? If so does Bachmann trains sell these? I'm just getting into n guage and trying to rebuild a few engines.

Generally, replacing the brushes without turning and undercutting the commutator is a lesson in frustration.  The roughness left by the first set of brushes usually eats up the second set of brushes quite quickly.  And the arcing that occurs during this process often destroys the commutator, making further repair all but impossible.

rObert's suggestion to replace the whole motor is a good one.
