Title: How to remove Rail Chief HO set Loco shell
Post by: Quentin on January 30, 2021, 07:36:54 PM
Hey all,
I need to know how to pop open the shell of the Rail Chief EMD GP40 loco. My little brother dropped the thing and knocked something loose inside, so I need inside to repair it. Surprisingly, the shell didn't take any damage from the fall. I searched for any screws holding it on, or those clips that are on other locos. Nothing.

Thanks,
Quentin

I'm pretty sure the screws are hidden inside the fuel tank cover. If I remember my GP40s correctly (they're currently in boxes awaiting a move) there should be two screws once you remove the cover.

Well, that would make sense. I will check there. Thank you!

Let me know how it goes. I looked at the online parts diagrams and it doesn't show fuel tank screws.

Here is my "note to self" about my GP40 shell removal.
Bachmann GP40 Shell removal: pull off diesel tank (ply slowly with small flat blade screw driver); unscrew 2 screws, lift off shell. Hope it helps...

Thank you. I just now got to take care of it, and that's where the screws were. under the fuel tank.
