HO / Re: LED front light of 2-6-0 Alco seems defective

Thanks both of you.

I will ask him again, maybe he put it in another box, not in the original one :(
The loc you showed Terry looks much like it, but as he painted it into colors he wanted  :o it is a bit difficult to recognize.

And Sid
Maybe you are right about being it the On30 and that I am confused about running on H0 rails.
But it is defenitly LED, not a normal bulb

I brought it back alreay with all the feedback I had from you and he was going to look for the front light himself.
I told him he could pull out the light housing and eventually cut the wires, first fixing them to the shell.
Solder the new light to the wires and use isolation shrink tubes to isolate everything.

Thank you both!

@rich1998
I did a search both with the search field top right (using several search formats) and manually through a lot of train models that look the same.
Several things that pointed to something like a front light, but none was the correct one.
So I suppose this front light is not available as a spare part.
I will look to what you suggested and see if that helps.

If not, I have to try to open the housing of this front light and replace the LED.

@Terry Toenges
The model is was is written on the box and the loc also looks the same as shown on the 2.6.0 ALCO page
Also the loc is H0 type and the On30 loc looks like a N type, correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks,
Bob

HO / LED front light of 2-6-0 Alco seems defective

As long as I cannot find the correct connection cable between de loc and the tender I use the by me again soldered connector.
But now I heard that the Front light (LED as far as I can see) already gave problems.
I thought I did something wrong with the soldering.

Can somebody tell me if one needs to replace the whole front light part including the housing, or can you open the housing and replace the LED.
This item I also cannot find in the parts list.
As said it is the 2-6-0 Alco, the 2-6-0 Steam Denver & Rio Grande Western #138

Thanks,
Bob

HO / Re: Lose wires connector between loc and tender
October 12, 2020, 05:38:45 AM
Is there anybody knowing if the cable mentioned is the correct 6 pin cable with the correct pin pitch size?
Bachman spares themselves suggested to contact this forum as they couldn't tell me.

The thing is that the cable mentioned as an actual spare part in the spare part list for this loc, is an 8 pin connector/cable.
But as the loc only has a 6 pin connector....

So I do hope somebody can assure that the suggested cable will work.
Sending it from the US to Europe will also take some time, so I do hope to know more soon.
This friend wants to use the loc again to enjoy together with his kids.

HO / Lose wires connector between loc and tender
October 10, 2020, 08:39:05 AM
A friend of me bought earlier this year some Bachman trains.
From one of these locs, the 2-6-0 Steam Denver & Rio Grande Western #138 (DCC On Board), the 6 wire cable between the loc and the tender has several wires disconnected from the 6 pin JST connector due to a stupid action of him.
He painted the loc and tender in the colors he wanted, but handled the connection cable to rough.

As I also am a model train hobbyist and do modifications and repairs as much as possible myself, I offered to have a look at it.
Contacting the Bachman parts dept they suggested me to buy following part, but they could not answer one question about it.
https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68_91&products_id=11194
I already bought SLT 6-pin connector/cable 1 mm pitch and 1.5 mm pitch. One was too small (the SH type), second (the ZH type) to big.
So it must be either 1.2 (ACHFR) or 1.25 mm pitch and neither part dept and a tech guy knew if this part is the right (1.2 /1.25 mm pitch) for the cable between the DCC sound ready card in the tender and the above mentioned steam loc.

If I cannot find a correct replacement cable with 6-pin connector, I have to try to solder the wires to the connector but that is not easy.
Also I wonder if that will be strong enough due to the constant bending of cables in turns and so.

Hope somebody knows if the suggested replace part is the correct 1.25 mm pitch one.

Thanks,
Bob
