Got a whole new set of gears for the Bachmann On30 truck. Assembled them, the result was very disappointing for me.
Instead of a smooth running truck, which I expected, I got a noisy, shaking, wobbling result with a slow and heavy running truck.
Assembled, dissassembled,  cleaned about three time, every time it got worse, The led wires broke and in the end I got a short circuit somewhere in such a way that the motor does not want to run anymore.

Yes I know what I was doing..

Wished I had not taken the truck apart and only replaced the rear axle where the crack was and not the whole drive train.
It seems to me that the white gears are slightly larger than the black crackling ones.
What caused in my case a slow and heavy wobbling drive of the truck
It was a nice rebuild truck with a Backwoods Miniatures cab on it and a Boulder Valley Box.
Even with sound.
The gears cracked while the truck was only laying in its box....

It is dead now............

Take care though no oil on the top motorshaft!. It can run down and may cause a short. Take just a wee bit of thick ball bearing grease instead

Perhaps I should have been more specific: the goal was to add a European style coupler on an American model of the bachmann GP40 West Maryland 3799 through the NEM pocket.

Such a type of pocket is not being offered by Bachmann.  Meanwhile the challenge is met through Liliput, one of the two  European branches of Bachmann. They offer them. Hope they will fit the locomotive.

What you show is indeed the coupler itself,
What I am looking for is the pocket it goes into.

Thse pockets do not seem to be available for the American-type locomotives of Bachmann.
Funny though , they supply the coupler, not the pocket.
Another unsolved mistery in Bachmann railroading..........

Are there Bachmann NEM coupler pockets available to mount on Bachmann HO locomotives.
It makes it possible to insert couplers of other brands.

One wonders why it is not possible to really have 'bagfuls' of replacementgears available.
The discussion on this forum on this subject is (too) long and pops up at regular intervals.

Mr Bachmann: your company does not deserve such a discussion! With it, your reputation on producing fine railroad equipment is under pression. You should not want this!

Please Mr. Bachmann, act further, in the broken gearissue ansd come up with a solution.
It is a penny question! 
The availablity of other replacementparts is good but we are not waiting to buy almost half-a-locomotive for just one pee-wee little gear.

At the moment I have three Bachmann On30 gear locomotives because of it on the scrap-track...

Hi Lar,
I have added sound to a shay. Under the tender is the place to be for a speaker and for the decoder.
There is not plenty of room but enough, especially for a micro Tsunami. The Tsunami decoder itself is wrapped, what you have to really watch for is that the underside of the Bachmann PC board in no way touches the back of the speaker. This can happen when you put the board back on. The speaker is then under it.
So when the board is taken from it seats cut away all sharp metal pieces that stick out on the (sometimes rough) soldered side and insulate it with a good type of insulating tape.
Otherwise your decoder will go up in smoke. You do not want that to happen.

There are no stupid questions 

Track can be glued down by using dabs of "white" glue along the line. "Woodglue".
This type of glue is water soluble.  After the glue dried it can be 'wetted' again to make changes afterwards, even after a couple of years. Wetted: use water with a drop of detergent in it.
Sure you use pins, weights etc. to keep the track down when the glue is drying.
I also use diluted 'wetted' white glue to ballast the track.

There was a discussion on broken piniongears on the forum, recently.
The thread boiled over, was locked and removed.

Two important facts to remember though:
1. Get in contact with the partsdepartment of the USA Bachmann through a form to be found on the 'order parts' page. They are friendly and helpful over there.

2. 'Our' Mr Bachmann has contacted some 'key persons in the Bachmann company' on the subject of the brokengears and the general availability of replacement parts and the pioniongears in particular.

We all (with Bachmann trains that have broken gears) are looking forward to hear the results of this, hopefully within short time.
May this possibly 'start all over again' thread be a reminder for that.

It seems that your Forney hit the carpet in its rear end, the truck part in particular.
Too bad it happened to you.

The truck swivels/hangs in a frame. Are these two 'rails' still in tact.
Is the fastening bold/screw in tact.
Does your truck have any hard-to-see cracks anywhere in its frame. Do its wheels track right /still fit in it the right way? Is there any play? Are your truckwheels still o.k. Take them out and roll them on a flat table. They should not show up any wobbling.

Is the frame of/in the Forney still in tact?  Hidden in the plastic between the footplate and the tender area is a cast metal H-frame. It might have a  slight bent. Is the Forney still standing straight up on its 4 wheels/2 axles .Also with the truck mounted? Test it again on a flat (wooden) tabletop. Push gently against the side of the forney. It should not wobble!

Test the rear truck separate from the locomotive and push it through a set op points (switch). Do the same with the rest of the Forney.  See what happens.

Parts? Try your luck at the USA Bachmann parts department. In general they are very kind to you.
But parts or no parts that is the question. See another thread on this forum.

Suggestion: take the trucks from the tender and pass them each through the switch.
Look what is happening and what causes the derailment. Trucks the problem or the points in any way?
Are the wheels the correct width? Check them with an NMRA gauge, Kadee has something too to check.

Hi all,

Once again, trouble with split gears.  
This time in the drive train in the trucks of my Bachmann Spectrum On30 Climax.
The plastic "crownwheels'' seem not be able to withstand the tension when pressed onto the steel rod between the wheelaxles. This too is an essential part.
It appeared,  with my climax,  a slow going on process that even takes place while the lokey is at rest in its box.
I hardly used it so far.
My climax started as a fine runner, now it shows bumps when running and the bad part  hits the gear on the drive wheels.
Asked the Bachmann parts department for help. I hope they can. Keep our fingers crossed....
