N / STEAM SOUND DECODER SIZE QUESTION
February 23, 2011, 03:44:57 PM
Do any of you know what is the smallest STEAM sound decoder with good quality. I have used the Tsunami Micro 750 and the Digitrax SDN144PS so I know these sizes. The Micro 750 is bigger than the Digitrax 144 but what is smaller than the Digitrax 144. Thinking of using a real small one as a sound decoder connection for a loco that has motor DCC already and this would add sound. Ron

N / HEAVY MOUNTAIN GEAR PROBLEM HELP!
February 21, 2011, 06:59:45 PM
My heavy mountain that I just got for Xmas seems to have a gear meshing problem. When I back it up it sometimes stops and it sounds like the gears are turning and no movement. If I go backwards fast enough is seems to go ok. Not a problem in forward. Is there a way for me to check gear meshing. Can I adjust something? How would I get to the gear problem? I can send it in to Bachmann but I already installed a decoder for sound in the tender and I would have to just send the loco and separate the tender from it and I don't know if thats ok. Thanks Ron

N / TURNOUT QUESTION HELP!
February 19, 2011, 12:32:59 PM
Why do Locos go around a track 10 times fine than stop on turnouts randomly. What can I check out? Is this the plastic in the middle of the turnout causing it or is it somewhere on the turnout where they loss the power or DCC signal. Is there a way to check this better. Ron

N / Decoder problem
February 17, 2011, 08:00:40 PM
I put the Tsunami 750 in the Norfolk and Western but it now is running with a jerky motion. It starts and stops starts and stops. The sound seems ok but the running is eratic. I didn't add the capacitor will this help? Anyway to test to see if the decoder is in ok? Ron

N / DECODER INSTALL SUGGESTIONS HELP
February 17, 2011, 08:13:51 AM
Hope someone can point me in the right direction to find a nice steam loco I can put my Tsunami 750 decoder into. Many times the tender is tooo small and the loco is not DCC frendly. Suggestions welcome. Thanks Ron

Opened up the tender today and found a very small decoder. I want to replace it with a small sound decoder but I need a very small one and a small speaker. The Tsunami micro 750 looks huge for this. What is the smallest available? Any thoughts? Ron

N / HEAVY MOUNTAIN PROBLEM JAMMING
February 14, 2011, 08:07:28 PM
This seems to go fine in forward but jams when put in reverse. I than have to put it in forward and give it throttle, move, than place in reverse again and continue or repeat procedure over and over. Did Bachmann have a problem with the heavy mountain? If I give a lot of throttle it sometimes helps. Thought maybe the wheel rods were jamming but have trouble seeing what going on as it happens. Any thoughts? Thanks Ron

I am gonna install a Tsunami 750 in the Class J Norfolk & Western N Scale. Does anyone remember if it has a plug for the decoder or a place in the tender to wire the decoder in. I really didn't want to do wiring in the loco. I rather it be in a tender. Also does any one know the smallest turn radius a N&W will do?

N / HEAVY MOUNTAIN TENDER OPENING TO ADD DECODER
February 05, 2011, 12:20:00 PM
How does the tender open to install a decoder in it? Can I just put a decoder in for sound using the original factory decoder for motor.

N / Could use some DCC Decoder change over help for sound
February 05, 2011, 11:17:20 AM
I have two N SCALE locos my wife got me for Xmas. One is a spectrum heavy mountain Rio Grande and one is a Spectrum Articulated 2-6-6-2 1397. She also got me two decoders to try. One decoder is a Tsunami TSU750 with a speaker and one is a digitrax sdn144s Soundfx with speaker. Both of the locos mentioned have DCC in them factory but I wanted sound. I need some advice as to which loco to try first, which would be the easiest switch over, and do I remove the original decoder or just add the new one. Hope someone will help that has performed the surgery before. Maybe a precedure would be real nice. Thanks Ron

N / WALTHERS TURNTABLE 933-2613 IS DCC BETTER?
January 15, 2011, 04:06:16 PM
Just purchased the Walthers 130 foot turntable (not the DCC one) and found you need 2 inches below the turntable to install it. Is this true as I think it the same as the DCC one? Anyone install one yet. Nothing says this on the package or in the walthers catalog. Found it printed on the instruction sheet in the sealed box and don't want to cut the plastic packageing on the turntable to see the reason for the depth. Tough when you installing on a door. Any suggestions! Just thought I would ask as many here have installed this already. What is the advantage of the DCC turntable? Thanks Ron

This has to do with the Tsunami decoder as regular decoders program fine without Blast mode. The Digitrax Zephyr Extra has a Blast Mode but the address changing is done on the mainline track. Will not program on programming track for address. You set the Zephyr into Blast mode and than program normally but in PAGE mode. Now we can program a Tsunami decoder without a booster.

I'm trying to program an address into my loco so I don't have to use the factory 03 address any more. I'm trying to do this on the main line but it keeps saying buzy. How do I do this? The number to put in the Digitrax Zephyr Extra is 39 for the loco. The manual driving me nuts. Thanks Ron

Is there any special way to wire the buttons so it is correct for the switch track direction it takes.
When all the push buttons are to the left this is the directions the switches go.

N / HELP PROGRAMMING THE DIGITRAX ZEPHYR EXTRA
January 02, 2011, 07:45:40 PM
Have my xmas gift up and running. Can't figure out how to get to the section in the digitrax to change the locos volume. The loco Walthers Y3 says it in CV 51, I think, but I don't know how to get to CV 51. Anyone able to get me started in programing. The manual sound like a foreign language. Maybe with a little help I can get going. Thanks Ron

N / LOCOS AND TRACK RADIUS
December 31, 2010, 08:58:41 AM
It seems my new layout is being a real pain. New to this but having trouble getting different locos to run. Is there a method to checking track for workability and why some locos don't run. Some locos hit at switch track sections. Running a light mountain and Norfolk and Western J class and having trouble. When the N&W goes into a curve it lifts up and goes off the track. I am using 11 inch radius track and 9 3/4 radius. Ron
