Large / Re: garden railroad
March 05, 2013, 09:06:41 AM
I started Garden Railroading a couple of years ago.  I think the best part of the hobby is that my wife loves it!  She loves the trains running through flowers and the idea of a focal point to the backyard.  Although, we don't have any grandchildren yet, it attracts all of the little kids in the neighborhood.  I installed a small 5 x7 goldfish pond.  The kids show up everyday in the summer to run the trains and feed the fish!  Lots of  fun and entertainment.  The advantage of Garden Railroading is that the flora and fauna can support the railroad, rather than having to constantly build and add scenery and buildings as you do with an indoor layout.

Large / Re: height of Emily to top of stack?

thanks..helpful.  Note:  I just bought mine from Trainworld as part of their 20% Bachmann LS sale last month.  It is a beautiful piece and I anticipate the neighborhood kids will be very excited to see the new addition to our Garden layout.  I was looking for the height because the engine is currently sitting on a shelf at our summer house and I am building a tunnel at our winter home.

I am curious to know if anyone has tried to install a smoke generator without melting the smoke stack?

Tac,
Thanks for the valuable smoke generator chart.  I think I will take your advice and leave it alone, unless someone else has done installed one with successful results.

Just received my new Emily!  It is beautiful!   I would like to add a smoke generator if possible.  Anyone done this?  I have thought about using an LGB type or "sleuth" type in her stack...Anyone done this?

N / Re: great northern tender jumping track

sorry...radius is 14" and it is the Vanderbuild .
I read that adding a bit of lead weight would help.  I wonder if the tender comes apart for me to add some lead shot?

Have a new steam loco w/ tender.  Curves are 28" and tender wheels are jumping track when long observation cars added (2).  Anyone add weight to tender?  IF yes, how did you do it?
