Title: C&O H4 Articulated DCC
Post by: bluegrass will on February 18, 2010, 12:58:04 PM
Does the new C&O H4 Articulated with DCC on board have the capacity to also be operated in old fashioned DC mode? I am an old "stuck-in-the-mud" dinosaur with a large collection of motive power dating from the 1950s to the 1970s and converting from DC to DCC is prohibitively expensive for me.  Thanks to whomever answers my question.

Yes the H4 is equipped with a "dual mode" decoder. It will operate either way.

Mr. Lynch,

Thank you, sir, for your prompt reply and excellent information; this is most helpful to me.

I already own and enjoy several Bachmann models including the N&W Y3 and the C&O
H5.

Sincerely,

And, it should come with jumpers to bypass and remove the decoder completely which will be your best bet for the best DC operation. This is especially ture if you use any kind of advanced motor control DC throttle that uses pulse width modulation.

Dual mode decoders do not respond well to these types of DC throttles.
