Large / Re: consolidation cab removale

By removing the roof, I was able to paint it away from the engine. It turned out nice. Through the roof, I was able to remove the inside windows and paint the stationary window frames with just a little bit of masking. The bonus was, I was able to remove the cab doors so they could be painted also. Unfortunately, they did not turn out a nice as expected. I may have to remove the paint and start over. No big thing, just disappointing.   Bruce

Thanks guys. I removed the 4 screws on the bottom, but nothing moves. At least not freely. I will do some more wiggling around . I removed the roof, [I did'nt see those screws] and that will make things a lot easier to work on, being I want to paint the roof also. Thanks. Bruce

Large / consolidation cab removale

Hi- I have an unlettered consolidation and I would like to paint red trim on the cab. I thought it would be easier to do with the cab off. Has any one removed the cab before? Is it easy to do, or should I just mask it and do it on the engine. Thanks. Bruce

I had a chance to buy a Manitua Unitah mallet a couple of weeks back. I was thinking  about converting it to on30, but I am still new to this scale,  and I thought it might be to small , being HO. bruce

Underneath the cab you will find two small screws. Undo those and the cab should lift off. Be careful with the pipng that goes into the front of the cab from the whistle. I did not remove mine, but I loosened the srcews and the cab was loose, so that should be it. Bruce

Thanks for the replies, guys. Steve, that's what I thought it was. You explained it nicely. I was of the same impression, but while cruising some web pages, I started to get confused. I think they are the ones confused.I am mostly on30 these days, but I bought a Bachmann 2-8-0 saturday. I knew that is is narrow gauge on standard G track, which makes it larger than the normal G than I am used to. While checking on some cars, I came across "Fn3". I never heard of it before. Like you Berry, I figured, I would figure it out, but this made it much clearer. Thanks. Bruce

What is Fn3? I thought it was the size that 20.3 narrow gauge would be if it as on standard gauge track for that size. but now I'm not sure. Bruce
