On30 / Re: Porter problem

This part has a slot that snaps on over a tab. My 0-4-2 came as you described. I very firmly persuaded it into place and it is fine now. It took a couple of look overs for me to see the problem. It is a very very tight snap fit.

jdvass,

You don't have to re due your whole world (unless you want to).

Just get some older heavy weight passenger cars. You can match them or intentionally mismatch them.

Now run "Steam Excursion Trips".

On30 / Re: Beware That New Krylon Spray Paint
March 19, 2009, 11:03:55 PM
El Loco,
I agree model paints are a safe bet, but Krylon paint meant:
-No driving 25 miles just to find out the hobby shop did not have what you want.
-No waiting for order to come by UPS.
-Convenience of being on the shelf every place spray paints were sold.
-Very economical compared to model paints.
-Matched Bachmanns paint quite well.
-To do what modelers do well: improvise and look for alternative solutions.

We will persevere.

-Ok, so I should do the eraser thing to the lettering and stripe.
-I bought the Deft Lacquer because I had heard it was good over new decals and OK with the Bachmann loco black.
-The old Krylon used to work over Bachmann loco black and from this post should I believe that the new Krylon black is safe over the Bachmann colors?
-Lacquer does not work over the new Krylon?
-Should I use the Deft but get a lacquer based black paint?
-Or use the new Krylon and get an Acrylic Satin?

Has anyone tried the new Krylon (tapered cap) Satin Black over Bachmann's steam loco black? I am planing to cover the white stripes and lettering with Krylon Satin Black. Then renumbering and use clear Deft over this. This thread has me nervous and there is not much room for testing on the On30 Shay.

On30 / Re: Larger On30 Shay

I model an 1883 logging railroad that was here in Allegan Michigan. For your needs and others the current Shay may be too small. For the Allegan & Lake Shore R.R. it is correct and just needed some backdating ( remove generator, add a box head light, a diamond stack and a wood cow catcher. Many, many logging railroads used these smaller Shay. Remember there would be no larger Shay if Mr. Shay had not started building the small ones right here in Michigan.
I agree you would not want to go to big.
I also agree a Class A Climax would nice

My dad built one of mine for Christmas on a 4x6.5 plywood and frame with a modified Life-Like over and under set hinged to the wall in 1974.
I added a 4x4. Removed that and added a 4x6.5 to form an L shape. Then moved things to make a 8x 6.5. I then removed the extra 4x6.5 and added a triangle piece big enough for an engine facility with an Atlas turntable.
All the ad ons were constantly changing. The original 4x6.5 is as built with a couple of turnouts added.

Bach man should let Krylon know how the Bachmann Bashers have had their world turned upside down. To have the perfect can finishes at resonable prices was wonderful.

General Discussion / Re: NWSL "Chopper"
December 13, 2008, 07:23:54 AM
Mr. Yampa Bob you may be brilliant and "outside the box". So you are saying buy a pair of $16.00 Anvil "rose" pruners instead of a $175.00 Chop Saw for dowel cutting? So dowels are "Ramin" wood not hardwood but they are a hard wood?

Thanks

General Discussion / NWSL "Chopper"
December 11, 2008, 09:54:46 AM
Building a wood trestle for my Bachmann trains.
I am considering the "Chopper" by NWSL. Has anyone used this type of tool for cutting 1/8" hardwood dowels. If the blade and handle will cut this hard material it will save me the time of sawing dowels.

Other than the fine tooth craft/ modeling saw does anyony have a better idea? I have to cut 199 1/8" dowels for my 420' trestle.

Thank you.

On30 / Flat car with load
December 07, 2008, 09:08:29 PM
Mr. Bach man,
The HO scale flat car with log skidder looks good. Maybe On30 could have one? Flat car with Skidder and Skidder alone would be nice. I don't ask for much.

On30 / On30 and E-Z TRACK
November 15, 2008, 08:28:26 AM
Will On30 equipment clear the E-Z TRACK remote turnouts (switch machine) ? The pictures on this site do not show this. Most train set switches have the remote controled switch very close to the rails. This portion of track will be along the back of layout. Those near the front I will do manually.

Thanks
