Title: Controller problems
Post by: pollito14 on November 04, 2014, 09:48:12 PM
Last year won a G scale set Thomas the Train (model number 90069) in a raffle and the speed controller provided (model no 44213) has stopped working. I'm more technical than the average guy so I took my DMM and started troubleshooting. I started at the track, no voltage. Checked the power supply/transformer coming out of the wall, 110V. Opened up the controller and lost continuity at what seemed to be some type of fuses that are riveted to the PCB. I checked the resistance on the POT and it seemed fine.

I think this happened after my kids repeatedly switch the polarity/direction of the loco, but quite honestly I'm not sure. I made sure they weren't playing with anything metallic that could short the tracks.

Is this something common? I can post pics of what I've checked out if necessary.

I haven't heard of any similar problems, but those little power supplies do go bad from time to time. Check with parts for a replacement.
