Large / Walschaerts Valve gear removal from 4-6-0
May 12, 2011, 12:28:31 AM
Have an "Annie" 4-6-0 with Walschaerts valve gear that I need to remove in order to modify the chassis
Are the steam cylinders glued together so that the rear part will not come apart?
How do i proceed?

Bachmann.
Will the metal gears retrofit to earlier editions of the 4-6-0?

Does anyone have information or pictures of the new designed metal drive gears and improved pilot truck for the Bachmann Large scale 4-6-0?

Thanks to all of you for the help.
As soon as I finished reading these messages I tried the removal procedures suggested.
Worked perfectly!!

I need to pull the main driving wheels on my 4-6-0 (5th) version
One wheel is wobbly. I do not see any hub caps to remove to access the screws in the end of the axle.
I am hesitant to use brute force to force the wheel off if there is a retaining screw .

Jon,  The version I am considering buying is the DCC and Sound equiped. From what I can learn the Sound is the "Spectrum for Bachmann DCC sound equiped locomotives, featuring Tsunami by SoundTraxx"

From what I have learned this DCC equiped engine will work from Analog DC. I am making the assumption that it will also work from battery power DC.
I plan to control it with my AristoCraft Revolution system.

MY current system is a two truck Shay with battery power and the Revolution. This system works very well.

I also have a Bachmann Annie 4-6-0 with track or battery power. The battery portion is controlled by a RCS system and a Sierra sound System. This system also works very well. It is too bad that Sierra discontinued the Sierra sound units for "G" scale

Large / Re: Electric Pickups Plunger Replacement
July 29, 2008, 12:33:47 AM
Thank you all for the information. I mounted the LGB plunger in a small block of wood, soldered the pick-up wires to the inside ends and bonded the assemblies to the frame with CA glue. They are an excellent fix.
These web pages are a great place, for "How To" help!!

Large / Electric Pickups Plunger Replacement
July 22, 2008, 12:20:03 AM
On a Bachmann 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler-The pickups need replacement.
They are small plastic pockets with a coiled spring and plunger in each pickup. (4 each) They have gotten hot and melted and fused the spring into the plastic pocket so that they no longer move.

Has anyone replaced them with the all metal pocket, spring, plunger from LGB?
If so how did you install them?

Large / Re: Box Car sizes?

Thanks everyone for the information.
I am just starting out in "G"
I have a 4-6-0 #81099 Annie, one Orchard Supply Hardware Box car #93396, 2 log cars #98490 and a 4 wheel caboose #93114.
I am planning on adding a few more box cars etc and a couple of passenger cars in the future. I also own a Two truck shay #82199. To me all the equipment looks good and operates good. I just want to avoid anything that is too far out of scale with what I currently own.I am not a rivet counter but I want to keep everything "reasonable" looking together.
Again Thank You,
Rod

Thank you guys for the prompt replies. Now for another question.
What scale are the "kit" box cars #98911?
How does a kit box car compare to a ready made one?
Thanks
