Large / Re: Posting Rules?
October 15, 2008, 04:51:32 PM
It seems to me that some common-sense rules are stretched here, stated rules or not. This is a Bachmann supported board. It would seem to me that postings that are seen as negative toward Bachmanns goals would not be appropriate. This is not to say that problems or issues with items purchased from Bachmann could not be addressed. But a couple of you are consistantly negative about most everything. "I don't have one but I think that they aren't any good", or "I haven't tried to call, but they don't answer their phone". Give us, and Bachmann, a break.

I'm considering changing my K to Kadee couplers. What model coupler fits it?
Thanks,

Large / Track

I haven't run my garden trains for a couple of weeks, and the brass rails looked oxidized. Although it took some time, I went over all of the rail with 1500 grit sandpaper. Just to insure good conductivity, I put on a couple of drops here and there of Whal oil. Nothing, no engine, will pull anything except downhill. My ten-wheelers won't even pull themselves. I spent quite some time wiping off the oil. I now make sure that I water the track along with the flowers. Maybe, in time, I will get enough oxidation to get traction. I'm not new at this. I just over-reacted. I thought that everyone might enjoy a morning laugh.

Large / Coupler conversion
July 14, 2008, 10:09:42 AM
I've started the conversion of my 1:20 stuff to the coupler heighth of the K27. How are you guys doing the log cars? Fastening Kadees on the beam (frame) may be too restrictive on curves. Is it? I've put one on the existing coupler mount, but it drags on the beam. Advice?

Thanks,
Doug

How do you get a MTH smoke unit? Do they sell it direct? Is there a model number?
Thanks,

What are suggestions for a painted, easily fitted crew for the K-27?
Thanks.

Will a K-27 fit through an Aristo covered bridge?

Large / Headlights
January 29, 2008, 08:37:43 AM
There have been a couple of references on this board to leds and bulbs for lights, so excuse me if this has been previously answered. I'm looking for led's, or bulbs, for headlights. I don't really care for the light in the Annie, as I believe it is too yellow. Nor do I like the super-bright lamp in the 45-tonner. The lamp in the pre-Annie 10-wheelers was close, as was the one in the first Shay.
Thanks,

Doug

Large / K-27 axle spacers

Someone, somewhere, had previously suggested nylon washers to limit end travel of the first and last main axles. What is a source of such washers?
Thanks.

HO / Re: Pre-war air-electric PCC trolleys.

I bought my first traction model in 1960, and have been buying, and a bit of selling, since. I know that it has been said before, but the Peter Witt is a really fine model by any standards.
My suggestion (you get lots of these) for next is a Cincinnati curve sider. Many companies bought these for both city and interurban service, and there have been few models made in HO.

Large / Re: K-27 Smokebox color
January 18, 2008, 01:22:29 PM
I guess my posting was too brief to be clear. What I'm really trying to do is to paint the nut\bolt\washers that I'm putting in the holes in the sides of the smokebox. I was trying to avoid mixing colors until I got a match with the existing color.
My guess is that the color Bachmann uses attempts to recreate the oil and graphite mixture that many railroads used to wipe down the smokeboxes. It looks good to me.

Does anyone have a paint match for the graphite on the smokebox?
Thanks.

My K does the same thing. I have to give it a bit of a small shake to get it to go forward after reverse. But what a beautiful engine!

I would have been really disappointed if there hadn't been a strong response from the EBT fans. I guess my arm could be twisted to buy an EBT engine.

Okay, now we have great Shays and Kays, it is time to start bugging Bachmann about what's next. The obvious next loco is a C-16. Consider the variations, not just the Colorado ones that we all love, but the Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana lines as well.
