Can someone help me out here; how do you put a picture with your profile?
let me know
Go to your profile. Select the middle option. Give the URL for a photo that you have uploaded to a website. This is a public display of your photo, so you really want to use one that you have taken or at least have the right to display.
At the moment, this forum does not allow you to upload a photo to be stored on the forum. But with so many places available to upload photos (photo bucket comes to mind,) lack of storage on the forum is not a problem.

Wraping it in code /code does not work!
yes it does..
its how I added my little LV train at the bottom of this post.
if its not working, then you have something coded wrong..
can you tell us what you are trying to add?
you can post the tags here by adding an asterisk to them, like this:
[*img]www.blahblah.com/mypicture.jpg[*/img]
then we can see what you are trying to do.
Scot
Thanks. That's useful...
Now to find a pic...
I've tried - doesn't seem to work - probably not as computer savvy as some. I miss my old profile!
John,
[*img] http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/photos/cpr_steam/136.htm [*/img]
You need to remove the asterisks.

Hmmmm....
That didn't work, either.
Do you have some other instructions in the line, such as [*url][*/url],
without the asterisks, of course?

except you must link to an image, not a webpage.
the "address" must end in .jpg .gif or .bmp, or a few other obscure image extensions..(try not to use .bmp if you can, only because bitmaps are generally very large files.. .jpg is best.)
you cant use [*img] tags to link to a webpage, which ends in .htm or .html
Scot
Scot,
Thanks,
I missed the importance of the .htm, .html tags.
