Hello Charlie,

I could not find that specific picture, but there are lots of them on the web. Just google for images using "Bremserhaus" (the German word for a brake-doghouse), and you will need some time for viewing.

Have fun, Dieter

If you can do with a "shorty", Dallas Mallerich (Boulder Valley Models) offers a nice and easy to be built 20' outside braced steel boxcar kit.

Hello Charlie,

the doghouse you saw on the German Car housed the brake wheel and gave the brakemen some shelter. It was quite common on freight, but only in use on some very early passenger cars, as the hand brake wheel in passenger cars very soon got mounted inside. Passenger cars were also the first to be equipped with air brakes.

Backwoods Miniatures offer 0-6-0, 2-6-0 and 2-6-2 tank engines (kits as well as RTR) based on a Bachmann H0 drive and a kit of a slope back tender. I got a 2-6-0 and the tender kit, which make nice little mogul.

I own a Backwoods 2-6-2T saddle tank engine, a nice RTR model which is based on a Bachmann H0 drive. The loco stalls on grade crossings, as the wheel diameter is very low, and part of the gear reaches down between the rails. The engine really sits on the crossings.

Mr. B.: If you ever do a 2-6-2T in 0n30, please avoid this problem.

Kind Regards

I switched from H0n30 to 0n30 because Bachmann made the Shay available at an affordable price. I was happy when they offered the Climax. To me it is obvious to complete the set of geared engines with a Heisler and I don't understand why Bachmann hesitates to give us one. Requests for a Heisler have been posted in the old Bachmann forum (by me as well) years ago and ever since.

Mr. B.: There are lots of industrial narrow gaugers waiting for something different than an American or a Ten Wheeler or Colorado main line steam: Please, fill the gap and build the Heisler!
