I have a 4-8-4 santa fe model i think 1977. Does not run very good how to disassembable the unit Are there any instructions. Any comments on how to improve this model
does it have a white motor?
No idea about the 1977 era.
I suspect below is what you might have. Many of the 4-8-4 design had the pancake motor which is not very good, over time. I believe all where three pole motors. They were essentially toyish type locos. Some included a smoke generator.
There was also a line of Bachmann 4-8-4 that had a can type motor and smoke unit.

There are a few more diagrams at the HO Seeker site for the Bachmann locos.
