N / Brill/PCC Trolleys Success!
December 22, 2009, 09:34:18 AM
Bach Man, your advice from my previous post was good enough to drop some coin on a Brill Trolley, p/n 61093.  The 7" radius was still a bit large to deal with when engineering an N scale town, so I took a leap of faith and experimented with going down to 3.25" with flex track,(and the lid from a Folger's coffee can!) and found that the trolley worked fine with no binding and no underbody modifications.  Though this may not be prototypical and suicidal at high speeds, that issue was offset by the increased workability into the town.  In analog, the Trolley works fine, even at prototypical slow speeds, and enhanced the idea of a layout within a layout. And keeping it simple. Thanks!

N / Re: N scale buildings

DPM/ Woodland Scenics are pretty good, if not, one of the best for detail.  Simple to build and they supply a lot of extras, particularly when you purchase the"Town and Factory Set", p/n S1485; cheaper to buy the set than buying the individual buildings. Walthers will occasionally have them on sale.
Going from "G" to "O" to "HO" to "N", The detailing becomes pretty tedious, but can be worth the trouble. The airbrush can still be your friend, though coupled with a magnifier. Good Luck!

N / Brill/PCC Trolleys

I'm building an N scale town and considering the addition of a trolley system. What is the minimum curve radius for Brill and PCC trolleys? The layout is engineered for the addition of DCC at a later date. How much trouble will I have with the conversion of these two items?
