Title: Bachmann On30 Shay

As a add on to my last topic, what is a good cleaner to get all the lube off the gears for inspection? It's oil and alittle grease.

I've had good luck with Zippo or Ronsonol cigarette lighter fluid, which is pretty much the same as naptha, a cleaning solvent and paint thinner. Don't let it stand on painted parts, because it can soften some types of paint, but so far, I haven't had it harm any plastic, although I try to keep it away from any plastic that isn't an acetal engineering type like delrin, celcon, etc. If you do get some on a painted surface, blowing on it will help, because it does evaporate pretty quickly.
