I find that 5min epoxy works very well on metal to metal joints.
Make sure that any lubricants from drilling are removed first.

Just make sure the parts are where you want them before the
glue sets.  They aren't moving after that.

The motor is a Pittman DC60, it can be made DCC compatible.
The motor will give you years of service.

To make it DCC compatible you have to remove the grounding link, found on the
top of the brush mount.  Remove the screw and link.  Discard the link (Looks like a solder lug)
Replace the screw, it is now DCC compatible.  DO NOT disassemble the motor any further.
These motors are magnetized after assembly and removing the armature will kill the magnet!

To clean the motor attach leads to it and submerge it in alcohol and run it.

After it drys apply oil to the felt wicks at both bearings and iy's readt to go.

The stack is a very tight press fit, it may also have a little glue inside the boiler.

Pull straight up and wiggle in a circular motion, it will eventually come off.

Guy's

Yes it can be done.

I have installed a "Tsunami" micro with a low profile Hi-bass speaker.

The Bachmann circuit board and decoder must be removed. and the
tsunami must be hard wired.  You will also have to fabricate a speaker mount
out of .040" styrene for cone clearence, if you use the Hi-bass speaker.

It's a little more work but well worth the results.

You won't find anything better.  The jigs work very well.
You will find the instructions are excellent as well, as is the support.
Mike Barrett is great to deal with.  Go for it.

I built a seven foot long combination deck and through truss bridge in "0" scale.
Without the jig it would have been a chore.

Loksound  # 72443 is the GE 44T decoder.
It is the only one with the correct sound.
It will be a tight fit and you will have to use
a smaller speaker than the one supplied.

Your 2-8-0 is incorrectly assembled.

Only the first and fourth axles have flanges on their wheels.
All wheels on the second and third axles should be blind (no flanges).

Have Bachmann replace your loco.

On30 / Re: 4-6-0 lead truck having problems on track.

Dustin

First check the wheel gauge on the truck,  if one of the wheel sets is out of gauge the truck
will track poorly.  In this case wide is worse than narrow.

The truck link on the 4-6-0 is as you have found out is fitted too tight for proper operation.

I have modified the link on two of them by thinning the link about 1/64" on the screw head side
at each end.  Then filed a taper on the opposite side.  In addition I opened the hole at each end
slightly to allow more wiggle room for the screw.  I also chamfered the holes top and bottom.

Adding weight is difficult as the link will hit any weight you put on the rear of the truck.

Alternatively one could make a new link out of thin brass, the wheel sets on the truck are
double insulated so no shorts.

The 4-6-0 will run reliably on 18" radius.
I have no problem with mine, and one of my clients
is running on 18" R also with out problems.

On30 / Re: Installing Tsunami Decoder into a Climax?
September 20, 2009, 10:52:29 PM
Mr F

Use 1/4w 680 -750 ohm resistors.

I use 680 ohm in all mine, however if your track voltage is above 14v use the 750 ohm.

Then you will not blow the led's .

You can get replacement brass bearings from "YardBird Trains".

http://www.yardbirdtrains.com/YBSMparts.htm

I just recently installed a "Tsunami" in a new Mamtua 2-6-6-2T
and it had brass bearings just like the original mantua's.

All tsunami's come with a cover.

If it has no cover it may not be a Tsunami, or someone has removed it.
In either case don't touch it it is junk.  Soundtraxx will not honor the waranty
if the cover is removed.
