Hi Jeff,

That's a steam powered water pump so they could take water from a stream or lake when there wasn't a water tank handy. Bachmann put them on the unlettered engines so they could be used in logging or other industries. The prototype was built in 1898 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the English Lynton & Barnstable Railway. I tried to paste a link and it doesn't want to work so Google Lyn locomotive and you should get the information.

Large / New Bachmann 94648 switch stand review
June 15, 2015, 02:07:50 PM
I just received a 94648 switch stand off eBay. I attached it to an LGB 1600 turnout and it seems to work very well. It looks very American in style and the target's shaft base is 2.97mm / .117" so you could make a different one to match what would be on your railroad's era out of styrene or brass pretty easy. It came with extensions to move the stand 3/4" and 1 1/4" farther from the turnout if needed. You can also adjust the throw from 9mm as shipped to 6mm.  It's not spring loaded so if you run through the turnout misaligned you'll derail just like the real ones. (Don't ask me how I know that!!) I'm going to put these on all my manual turnouts. Thank you Bachmann for an American prototype switch stand.

Hi Bill,

Well, you've been busy. Looks like a nice run you'll have. Are you going to do anything to the ceiling?

Wade

PS I'd say that WP&Y was an OSH set till I find out other wise.

Hi Bill,

Looking good! Glad to hear you've got the plan already for the new layout. I've seen guys move and the trains stay packed up for years. Let me guess. No duck-unders and everything within reach I'll bet. So nothing outside for now? Remember those LGB adjustable track sections I used for my liftout bridge. They worked very well.

Keep us posted

Hi,

You have to hold the fast or slow button down for a while for it to work. Here's a link about it.

Hi Will,

Search for item number 81397. It was first listed in 2000 with a msrp of $799. I checked Google and nothing showed up. Good luck and Happy New Year!

Hi Again,

Well, that was easy. It was on top of the one pile. Like I said in the early reply on this post, it came with a wall pack that output 9vdc at 1000 ma. There's an on/off switch in the output line and the plug on the end matches up to the Bachmann track connector. The connector will plug in either way but I think when I ran it the black wire with a white trace was on the right side in the connector. I would think that was the positive side but there's probably a bridge rectifier inside so the electronic switching is protected. A regular Bachmann pack should work at about half throttle and the correct polarity. You may have overlooked the wall pack and thought it should have a regular power pack. Good luck and have a Happy New Year.

Hi,

I'll see if I can find mine and check it for you. I'm thinking they were a fixed voltage.

Hi Amber,

Here's one that is way over priced. Around a $100.00 would be more in line. I don't think it'll sell at this and they may relist it at a lower price. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas.

Good luck and have a safe move, Bill. With you, your son and maybe Kevin involved, we're expecting a fantastic layout. This would be a good time to model the D&RGW or maybe the Newport & Shermans Valley to interchange with the Path Valley or Tuscarora Railroad. I'll try to cover for you during your move.

PS: I thought when people got older they moved to where it was warm!!

Sure, it was a 97497 PRR baggage #4, first listed in 1995 as an addition for the 90097 #2 Golden Classic Pennsylvania set from 1992.

I saw it. Look close at the letter board at the top of the sides. They have been brush painted and other lettering applied.
