Title: Discontinued models
Post by: jleight on March 02, 2012, 11:01:31 AM
Does anyone know where I can find an HO Rickety or Fred the Orange Coal Car? I got into this series a little later and missed those two. I've been searching for a while but none have seemed to show up on eBay or other places that I have looked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think they ever came out. I think someone found an ad in a magazine and that's how it all started. I think what happened was they abandoned the project cause hitt entertainment didn't want bachmann. Bachmann is assigned what engines, rolling stock, and everything else in the thomas line from hitt, so its still a mystery, maybe someone else can give you better information.

Right, they were never released, although what is presumed to be the baisis Rickety and Fred were released, minus the faces (you could use the faces from their wooden models) They can be bought here

Fred and Ricketty were cancelled more than anything else, not so much discontinued.

Speaking of discontinued though, more rolling stock has been discontinued recently.  The well wagon, cattle wagon, and tar tank seemed to have been discontinued this year as they are absent in this year's catalog.  A shame, I really liked the well wagon, it was one of my favorite pieces of rolling stock in the Thomas and Friends range...

Hi there :)

I wasn't aware that the well wagon / cattle wagon and the tar tanker had been discontinued. Do you mean the classic tar tanker or the newer CGI replacement Tar Tanker?

The red composite and brake coaches are also discontinued, along with the RF Container and the 6-ton wagon.

I forgot those last three, they weren't as recent. :P

Also, the tar tank never appeared in the CGI series, but I am referring to the one used in the classic series.

Oh of course, my mistake! The CGI replacement I was thinking of was the Oil Tanker, silly me :P Shame the Tar Tanker has gone :( I thought it was a nice looking model :D

Indeed it was. It's actually one of my favorites, now that I think about it. Oh well. Hopefully these discontinued items will be replaced with new rolling stock models in the future.

Yeah, but hopefully they will reintroduce the discontinued models in future! :)

Remember, by discontinuing models it means there is room to expand the range further. It's not always a bad thing.  :D

I agree. I think it'd be great to see Bachmann make room for custom TV series specific rolling stock like the Plant/scrap wagons and the 4 Plank wagons from Edward Strikes Out.
