HO / Alternatives To Drawbar Couplers
February 03, 2013, 12:45:34 PM
My Amtrak Acela Spectrum passenger cars and locomotives are equipped with drawbar couplers.  I find it very difficult to couple the cars and locomotives together, much harder than if they had knuckle couplers.  Is it possible to somehow retrofit my Acela cars and locomotives with knuckle couplers?

Actually, all of my locos are DC except one.  The one that is DCC came as part of a Bachmann ready to run set that included a DC controller.  I would therefore assume that it is safe to run the DCC loco with DC power without running the risk of damage?

Apologies, Yardmaster!   I am interested in the Bachmann E-Z Command DCC System 44902.  Can anyone tell me about this system's features?

HO / DC/DCC Controllers
March 24, 2011, 06:08:01 PM
I am looking for a controller that will work with both my DC and DCC locomotives.  My layout is small (just a big oval, basically), and I don't see it going much beyond that in the future.  I don't want or need anything too complicated or expensive.  Two controllers that have been suggested to me are the MRC Tech 6 and the Bachmann E-Z Command DCC System 44902.

Can anyone give me some advice as to which of these two controllers would suit my needs better?  Is there another controller that would be better for me?

HO / Drawbar Couplers on Spectrum Acela Cars
March 22, 2011, 05:37:15 AM
The "forked" end of the drawbar fits into a "socket" on the front end of the car and snaps into place.  The forked end on the opposite end of the drawbar fits into the socket on the back end of the adjacent car and snaps into place.  The two cars are now coupled.  How do you uncouple the cars?  I have found that pulling very gently on the drawbar will get the forked end out of the socket.  Is this the right way to uncouple the cars?  I don't see any other way to do it, but I don't want to mess up my cars, either.

Can anyone out there give me some advice?
