Title: Finding Space a Problem? Here is a solution.
Post by: Jim Banner on March 25, 2009, 10:35:58 PM
Take a look at one man's model railroad that doesn't take up any floor space and doesn't have the view blocked by the tracks like many shelf layouts mounted high on the walls.

Of course, if space is no problem, you could build a layout like this one:

I guess the obvious question would be if it can be made to go up one wall, across the ceiling. down the other wall and across the floor to start again.

The video didn't say much about how it works, but under the car the gentleman picked up (picked down?) there was something that looked a lot like a super magnet.  I would think that a couple of Neodymium magnets on each car and a strip of iron under (over?) the track would do it.  As long as the magnetic attraction was stinger than the car's weight, it should stay up.  But I suspect you would need a lot more magnetic attraction to get enough traction to let the locomotive pull the whole train up the wall.

YES!!! I can see it now: I'll have a massive staging yard on the walls that border each side of my shelf layout. Thanks guys...now where did I put those magnets? Wall art?..we don't need no stinkin' wall art.
