??? My wife gave me a Bachmann trolley and a reversing track set. I ran it on the floor on christmas and it worked fine. I relocated it to a counter top and now it will only run in one direction. The letters on the bottom of the tracks correspond the way they are suppose to. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for the help.
does it make a sound or do anything when going the other direction?

i just bought BACHMANN SPECTRUM UNION PACIFIC GE DASH 8-40C DIESEL  i want to know how good they are?
at one time i had 6 of them.  they're decent runners.  my problem was the sloppiness of the axles in their trucks.  under a heavy load the center axle would pop out of one side or the other causing the front or rear drivers to derail.

how do i remove decals  on bachmann 4-8-4s and how do you add new one?
on the newer pad printed stuff I use a bright boy.  sometimes, denatured alcohol will work.  If using a bright boy make sure you spray the area with glosscote to get a smooth glossy finish before applying decals

The closest hobby shop that sells HO-scale equipment looks to be 80-odd miles away in Troy, IL. A&R Paints & Crafts. As for train shows... probably well over 150 miles each way - the downside to living in the middle of Nowhere, IL. Then again, I live in New York City and all of the train shows around here are out in the "countryside" making it rather difficult to reach them via mass transit, so they might as well be 150 miles away. The same with our hobby shops - I go to 6 different places in the city and combined they don't offer the variety of, say, Denver's Caboose Hobbies.

By the way... Doneldon, try imagining someone who is patient, helpful, and respectful of their fellow modelers regardless of their modeling or computer skills.
I think I understand where Doneldon was coming from.  The same as I was some questions were asked that most of us would have probably figured out in time.  We all have been down this road.  and yes some of us are close to or have a LHS nearby   at the time we didn't know his personal status but no matter.  the media is out there we just need to look for it.  Phil

ok
it don't help when i can't drive yet and i will be 21 on the 27th and im thinking about get    a UP passenger car set for my new UP fef3 844 4=8=4   why do  passenger cars cost so much for a set?
you want scale  or shorties?  pick your poison.  rtr will cost you more than kits.  and if you are doing a UP train it will not be cheap.  also, you'll have to tweak the kits more than the rtr.  my suggestion at this time would be to stay with either shorties or freight/mail trains for your FEF's.

Thanks for all responses and I misunderstood some things about this forum. I thought this forum was dedicated to Bachmann products only. The item I was referring is a Bachmann Plus, EMD F7A (Union Pacific) #1470, Item No. 11204.

I have the trucks out already and was also thinking about using super glue to hold the plastic piece that the drive shaft fits into. Also, the motor support is pretty secure with the 1 screw.  I don't think I will have any problems. I had already converted the units using Digitrax DH140 decoders long ago.

Again, Thanks

WB    I don't think ACC will hold up under the pressure, although you can try it.  Have you tried Bachmann?  Phil

A few years ago when entering this hobby and while at a train show, I purchased 3 F7A's and F7B's locomotives. I ran 2 of each about a couple of months and had to move and postponed the hobby. I have now retired, moved, and restarting the hobby again. While trying out an F7A, it started to move but then stopped moving and only making noise when signaled to go forward or reverse (like in neutral). I discovered that the coupler on the worm gear shaft is slipping. It is the plastic receptacle that is attached to the worm gear shaft. I hope I am making this clear. There is another problem and that is the "Instruction Paper" included with the loco. The parts diagram and picture does not match the actual parts. It lists motor screw holders and motor fasteners that do not match what is actually there. The motor support I actually have is a 1 piece unit with screw holders built on. I also need another one of these since 1 of the screw holder portion broke off. I am not sure how to order or obtain part information for repairs.

Please help . . . . .

do you know the maker?  Other option would be to check out NorthWest Shortline's coupllings.  Phil

this has been asked before.  There are several Big Boys out there in plastic or diecast metal.  Erie Triplex was done several years ago.

Hello

Could you please advise what is the different between the old pan cake motors. How can I tell them apart?

What is the different between a 2981, 2974,2953, 2951, 3832, 3240?

Is the size of the motor that is different or

is it the the gear have a different number of teeth

Or is it the way the are wired up. I have of these motors brand new and I can't tell them apart

Please advise

Quentin Mclachlan
most if not all pancake motors were/are 3 pole motors.  usually poor performers at slow speed with high torque.  Most can be found in the toy train market.  And are not easily repairable.

I have an older GP30 that has been converted to DCC. Unfortunatly it runs like a tank, groaning and grinding it's way along. I think the problem could be in the trucks and the iner mechanism. Is there anyway I can fix this problem? How do I tear the trucks apart? Would love to have a smooth running machine! Thanks HJM
my older gp3o's trucks were attached to the frame by a small screw.  There is also a clip on the bottom of the truck which must be removed to obtain access to the gears. Check your flywheels and a drop of oil to your motor bearings may help also.

the disadvantage to spray cans is you can't regulate the paint or the pressure.  As suggested before airbrush and compressor.  Alternative would be aerosol pressure can. it does take practice to become good for most of us.  Phil
