On30 / A Cab door request
January 24, 2010, 04:01:55 PM
Mr. Bachmann

Your fine locomotives have the abillity to shut windows, well, how'a'bout the cabs on the engine have the abillity to also open the doors, and roof vent. The cabs that you can buy from other makers have the function to but the cabs are made of wood. I personally like the Baldwin steel cabs, and would like to open the doors, and vents.

please forgive my poor typing earlyer, i was in a hurry.

Thanks

On30 / 2 or 3 stall engine house.
November 15, 2009, 05:33:00 PM
Does anyone one know where I can find a good 2 or 3 stall engine house kit under 150$ dollars? The engine house at Deer Field lasar is excellent, but the ET&WNC Vistibules come first.

On30 / 4-6-0 lead truck having problems on track.
October 30, 2009, 10:59:23 PM
My new 4-6-0, which I am extremal happy with continually has the problem of running around the bend. The lead truck keeps on falling off. I have loosened the screws to let it be more flexable, but it all aways jumps the track. I have thought of a solution to it, but I really can't figure out how to do it. I need to add more weight to the truck, but I don't know how to approach it.

BTW. I had to fix the cab interior, It was all wrong, the throttle was way too far on the back head, and the gauges mounted in the wrong place, as well as the water lines in the way of the engineer. I solved it with super glue and black wire lol. I will post pictures of what I did. I based the cab on the locomotive, after #12.

On30 / Need Help Installing a Wye Section of Track.
September 29, 2009, 05:11:42 PM
I am installing a wye section of track for my engine to turn around on, but there is one problem. There is an electrical problem with the tracks; I do know what it is, but can't seem to work my way around it. Rail one eventually turn into rail 2 over one of the switches and causes the wires to short.

I know I have discribed this vaugly but can't seem to but the words in a proper order lol. If you know what I am talking about, and can help me, I will appreciate it.

This is for the Eat Tadders & Wear No Cloths people. ET&WNC, and other Carolina roads that span from the Linvill to the ones in the coast that I don't really know about. This will hopfully prevent irrelvent posting in other topics. ;D

I'll start in this one.
I think we should see the ET&WNC lettering on most of the rolling stock. They pretty much match some of the ET&WNCs rollingstock.

any others ya'll?

Folks;

I think it is about time we saw a little bit more action on the WPY or the EBT front. Im a ET&WNC Person my self, but there needs to be a more varity. I for one would like to see the mikes of the EBT or WPY made in On30 scale. I know they are pretty large of an engine but I'm pretty sure that they can fit on the tracks radi with no problem.
Rock On!

ps. Let's see some of the rolling stock in ET&WNC lettering.

General Discussion / Coal and British Steam Loco's
August 14, 2008, 09:45:11 PM
What kind of coal do English engines burn? Do they burn a soft or hard coal? I have noticed that most of the engines I see on youtube have a beautiful clean white smoke.  I wonder if it is the coal you are burning or your firing technique.
Thanks

General Discussion / Sad news
April 02, 2008, 09:53:53 PM
The FRA has just announced that they are banning the operation of all steam locomotives effective immediately.

This startling move comes after continued research into the possible dangers due to steam locomotive operation. The FRA's initial concerns over steam locomotives were due to the safety risks in operating a high pressure boiler. However, the new regulations and stricter requirements have addressed that issue. There have been no further incidents like the one at the Gettysburg RR that prompted the new regulations, so the new boiler regulations are apparently effective.

The current concern comes from a new issue. The question regards the chemicals used in steam locomotives and the emissions these chemicals cause. The controversy intially came about at the Durango & Silverton with the local residents complaining about smoke. Wasatch Railroad contractors did extensive research and was able to come up with a smoke mitigation project that eliminated much of the problem. http://projects.wasatch-rr-contractors.com/?page_id=56

However, the FRA has now raised further concerns. Research has indicated that steam locomotives emit large amounts of Dihydrogen Monoxide during regular operation. The FRA has questioned the use of this chemical, and the effects that it has on surrounding areas.

When asked about the use of Dihydrogen Monoxide, steam locomotive experts claimed that it was critical to locomotive operation. In fact, if the levels of Dihydrogen Monoxide are allowed in the boiler to fall below a certain level, it can lead to immediate and catastrophic failure of the pressure vessel. Initial research indicates that is not possible to safely operate a steam locomotive without the use of Dihydrogen Monoxide.

During the regular operation of steam locomotives, a few were developed that did not emit Dihydrogen Monoxide as part of the operating cycle, however these engines were unsuccessful due to the added complexity of the exhaust processing equipment, and were never built in large numbers and very few were ever used on a regular basis.

Research continues on this matter, and the FRA has indicated they are willing to work with steam train operators, if an alternate to Dihydrogen Monoxide can be located. The prospects of finding a suitable substitute are not good though.

You may recall that a similiar problem ended the career of the famed GG1 locomotive when PCB's in the transformers became an issue. While there are several preserved GG1's, none of them are permitted to operate.

This is a sad day for the railway preservation scene.
