Sorry for the delay in answering, just starting to get on my feet from a cyclone that went through the area and left lots of tree damage.

I contacted Bridget at Bachmanns when I heard of the parts availability and was given the necessary info of what was needed.

The new 3 truck climax was jerky until I run this loco in, seems to be ok now, did notice the long drive shaft between the gearbox and the rear truck has the mounting hole in the universal drilled off centre, so the shaft runs out of true so to speak.

Apart from that, the loco seems to be running ok.

I guess I will eventually find out about any problems with the 3 truck climax, hopefully , mine will be leaving the States today.

I also bought the replacement gears and shafts for the 2 truck climax awhile back, and these were fitted with no problems and the loco runs fine.

HO / HO scale 3 truck Bachmann Climax locomotive

G'day:

Just wondering about the 3 truck Climax, has anybody had any trouble with the gears and driveline yet?,

I would like to purchase one of these models and seeing I had my fingers burnt with the 2 truck Climax, I am hesitant until

I get some feed back on the current model.

Thanks in advance

Your welcome, if you need to disassemble the universals, soak these in acetone for a short while, this softens the plastic (delrin!!) enough to remove the yokes, and do the same when you want to reassemble, but only leave in the fluid long enough for the plastic housing to become flexible.

This is only a suggestion, I came across this after I placed to much CA on a split yoke boss and the CA wicked into the universal.

I am wondering if you may have had the rear drive shaft out of sync to cause the rear truck to go like you say, the universals have to be orientated correctly, otherwise the shaft will bind.

I have just received the front and rear drive shafts and 2 sets of the intermediate bevel gears with bushings and shaft  that fit between the axles on the climax trucks, if you want the part #'s I can let you know.

The front and rear shafts consist of the female shaft, universal, drive pin with bush and bevel gear, these shafts are fitted to the trucks.

I have been waiting for a couple of years for gear and shaft replacements, have also been in contact with NWSL and the last report was, they were having trouble with the universals, and that was a couple of months ago.

I have this PDF, I want the detailed instructions for the correct order of dismantling the transmission, and I guess this will be a big ask.

Would someone point me in the direction of obtaining instructions for the dismantling of the HO scale Climax gearbox.

I recently received some collars from a friend on Vancouver Island and these were pressed onto the split bosses on the drive line, these worked and fixed the slipping problem, but now, there seems to be slipping inside the transmission, I have removed the bottom cover and can tell you all, the final and intermediate gear are OK, from there, I cannot see any further into the transmission, I might add, the crankshaft and rods are working OK.

I also notice the Bachmann is offering gears for the shays and climax on this page
