Is there a way to decrease the sound volume on the Bachmann Berkshire 1225 steam loco using the CV editing features on the NCE PowerCab controller? The sounds are terrific and quite authentic, but I'd like to take the volume down a notch. Thanks in advance.
Cv 128 - master volume. To manipulate CVs, follow instructions in the power cab manual.

Notice that the default value of CV 128 is 225. Enter a value of 200 and see if that gets it down to where you like it. If that's too loud, try 175. You get the idea. Keep trying different values until you find the one you like. You'll notice that there are other CVs for individual sound volumes also. You can adjust those up and down to suit yourself.
To be realistic with a steam locomotive, the whistle should be far louder than anything else, then the chuff, then the "steam release" (actually the blowdown boiler cleanout), then the bell. If you have a sound value locomotive, that's all the sounds you're going to have, that decoder leaves off a lot of sounds whose absence doesn't bother people who aren't familiar with steam engines.
The CV for the steam release is not included in the table above, but it's there, I believe it to be CV 136.
