Digitrax recommends that ALL programing be done on a Program Track. Try it, I hope that helps.

Thanks Roger, I am not into total authenticity I just like the look of the old steamers and enjoy watching them on my layout. After all isn't that what the hobby is all about , enjoyment.

Thanks ACY, I checked out that site and yes your right they do have them, not the number you gave me, ( That's for that other railroad ) but I did find the right number.
I will have to check with them, the herald I am looking for is the Red Square with Canadian National in it.

HO / Decals for C.N. steamers
February 01, 2011, 04:49:08 PM
While Bachmann does some Canadian National steamers, they don't do all of them so I am obliged to get undecorated models and I am trying to find a decal manufacturer that does the Square Heralds and numbers for the old steamers. Would any one out there have any source they can recommend.

Thanks guys.  BTW.  According to Wikipedia Canadian National is the fourth largest railroad in North America yet there is very little product available. I know Atlas and Athearn put some stuff out but the amounts are small in comparison to B.N.S.F., U.P.and many others.

Thanks Rocky Midland, you mention about splitting the frame with the valve gear in place.....  Have you done this conversion yourself or do you know of a site that details exactly how it is done ???

Thanks,Colli.

HO / Bachmann 0-6-0 and 2-6-0 DCC conversions.
January 16, 2011, 12:17:48 PM
Hi there friends, I need HELP.
I am on the Internet on a Dial Up System ( Because that is all I can get out in the back woods of Canada ) and I have spent hours trying to find a site that gives a good description and maybe some pics of how to convert Bachmann 0-6-0 and 2-6-0 Mogul to DCC. I have done the 0-6-0 Tank Loco and the 4-8-2 Hvy. Mountain but I am a bit leery of trying these two without some insight from someone who has tackled the job before.  I understand that Bachmann now has the 2-6-0 as a DCC equipped loco so why not the 0-6-0???

Thanks for any info. guys ( and gals ) the Dial-up system is so s l o w  its almost painful

HO / Re: NEWBIE

Hi Newbie,
Welcome to the club, I , like so many others am also a Newbie at age 67
and also have a lot of Locos ( diesel and steam ). As regards a " Theme " it's your railroad you make it the way you want it.  I like the modern diesels and the steamers so to have a way round it I made a Railway Museum area so that my older diesels and steamers sit in their sheds and roundhouses and when visitors come I can just trundle them out as a living and working museum piece. Where I am in Winnipeg, Canada, we have the Prairie Dog Central ( Steamer) and a couple of older diesels that are kept maintained and run on a short line during the summer as excursion trains. I think whatever money they make goes to offset the operation and maintenance of the units.
If you ever get the chance to ride on a steamer it will be an experience you will remember for ever. I grew up with steam trains in the U.K. so for me it brings back lots of good memories.
Enjoy your hobby, model railways never ever killed anyone.

HO / Quality comparison
August 18, 2010, 08:51:28 PM
Hi there all, I have the oportunity to buy someModel Power Diesel Locos,
from an estate sale ( I think they are the older style, no DCC. ) I was wondering how they stack up in quality to Athearn, Atlas and Bachman. I don't have any Model Power stuff at the moment and would also like to know if they are easy or difficult to convert to DCC.

Thanks,  Colli.  Elma & Contour R.R.

June 10, 2010, 12:35:51 PM
Hi guys,
I used to deal with an outfit called E_Hobbyland, I have tried e.mailing them and phoning them and also tried their website. The website comes up Under Construction, there is no answer to the phones even though they ring and the e.mail comes back - Mail box Full.  Does anyone know what is happening with them. I have some stuff on back order and would like to know.

HO / Re: DCC Ready Steamers - Where ???
March 18, 2010, 04:06:19 PM
Thanks ABC, I must have missed those THREE  out of all the products that Bachmann handles.  You helped to emphasize my point .
The 3 truck Shay. as far as I know was never used by Canadian National or C.P. so that does not help me. As far as the others I can't comment.  But it would be nice to have the options available on some of the other equipment.
Another nice to have would be more Painted Undecorated locos so that we could put our own ficticious Rail Roads or obselete short lines on them
While I realise that C.N. and C.P. don't mean much to most folks in the U.S. I am sure they like us are grateful to both railroads for any number of items being transported both ways across the friendliest border in the world.

HO / DCC Ready Steamers - Where ???
March 06, 2010, 05:08:32 PM
Hey there Bachmann,
Whats happening, I just checked the HO product line and there are no more DCC Ready Steamers ???  In the production line it can't cost more than about $10/ unit to install the plugs so why not give us the option ???? I am sure I am not the only Bachmann customer who is very disappointed in this.
