Post by: patrickthayden on January 04, 2009, 07:26:16 PM
Can I buy a Bachman John Bull locomotive and cars without buying the whole set?

Only if retailer or someone will sell them to you out of a set.

FWIW, the original 1831 John Bull was restored and operated by the Smithsonian in 1981 for its 150th anniversery.  I was fortunate to be able to see it run on an old B&O branch along the Potomac River near DC.  More info from Wikipedia here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bull_(locomotive)

Also--there is a copy that is a hundred or so years newer at the Pennsylvania State RR Museum at Strasburg.  I weas a bit confused in Sept. of 1967--I visited the PRR collection then stored at Northumberland and saw the JB there--and recalled having seen it at the Smithsonian a couple of weeks earlier.  gj

The John Bull shows up on ebay sometimes. I think there is one now starting a $60.00. Only good for display.

John Bull replica.
