do we really have to take out the suppression capacitors OR (RF CHOKES)if  i
want to change decoders from Bachmann decoders to MRC sound decoder
and will it all work with out having problems on a DCC club layout !

JC,

I have installed digitrax and Tsunami decoders in my locomotives, without clipping the capacitors. One loco has the original Bachmann decoder.

I run these locos on our club layout with no problems (Digitrax system).

My home layout is DC.  I have clipped the capacitors on the locos that run on this layout.  This slightly improved slow speed running.  It was pretty good to start with.

Don't know if MRC does anything differennt.

That's my experience.  Others may have different experiences.

Regards,

Jonathan

I found that as I replaced the standard Bachmann decoders with Digitrax. NCE and TCS decoders that some units would run erratic and others would not. I clipped the capacitors on all.
