Yes, they should hook up no problem as long as you are using the knuckle couplers on your set.
The Spectrum 1:20 line uses the same couplers but at a different height. I believe they come with an adapter coupler to match the height of the Big Hauler line.

There is not a snow plow for the Big Hauler 4-6-0. You can only get plows for the big K-27 2-8-2. You would have to make your own though it's not really a big and strong enough loco to do any real snow plowing.

You will have to open him up and either switch the leads from the power pick ups or switch the leads to the motor. Don't ask why.

I would also like to know if those nifty spoked wheels might be made available separately!

the water tank - http://prr.railfan.net/standards/standards.cgi?plan=57383-D

My water tank is based on the M&E tank at the museum in Whippany, NJ -

My tank is a 6 inch pvc pipe coupling with cedar strips glued on with Phenoseal vinyl adhesive caulk (great stuff found with caulks in the home depot).
My spout is made from copper tubing (the flexible kind).  Ozark Miniatures, Schomberg scale models and others also make spouts.

Drill them out! I use a pin vise or hand chuck and use a slightly smaller drill bit to drill out the stub.

btw - I luv outside braced cars and have a few of them!

Most actions figure run about 4 3/4 - 5 inches tall which is way too big for Bachmann large scale products (1:20.3 - 1:22.5 scale). You will want to find figures in the 3 - 3 1/2 inch tall range.
The exception is an oddball scale I model in - 7/8's scale or 1:13.7. Action figures fit perfectly for this scale.
Some examples -

a JeanLuc Piccard figure -

an original StarTrek Edith Keeler figure (that station is 30 inches long with 6 inch tall doors!) -

an Indiana Jones figure -

ST-Voyager's Chakotay on a Bachmann tip car which work well for 7/8's scale -

Most any power pack in the higher power range will work. I run my holiday trains with an old MRC pack I used for my HO trains (don't try to use the smoke though. It uses lots of juice).

hi Mike,

Sorry to hear about your train woes. I got fascinated with HO trains around my grandparent's tree at an early age. After a few years that set became mine and I have been a happy hobbyist for the past 40 years.
First thing to check is to see if there is power coming out of the power supply. A simple voltmeter or multimeter will do the trick. If that is okay then see if power is going to the track. If so then the loco is the problem but I suspect either the power supply or the connection to the track.

Adding motors to Bachmann switches is kind of like putting lipstick on a pig.
Time to upgrade to real track!

Large / Re: LED Lights to replace old lights ???
December 11, 2009, 06:23:17 PM
Its not that difficult. You just need fine the power leads in the smoke box, hook in a little bridge rectifier (to have the light on when running reverse or forward) and a 1000 ohm resistor (good for 21v) to the led. George S does it with a little more complexity- http://www.girr.org/girr/tips/tips1/big_hauler_tips.html#led

Yup, you got a woodburning stack on a loco burning coal.

What did you expect from a loco with lights glued into its sides?  :D
