Title: proper break in
Post by: falcor023 on March 03, 2010, 07:54:52 PM
What is the proper break in for a new Bachmann Spectrum with DCC ho scale 4-8-4 J class loco? Mine is VERY jerky at slow speed . It also lots of  starts and stops at slow speed.  I could use a manual explaining how to do this. Mine only came with a parts page. Also, what is the small bag of dark grey/black powder that came with it?

Run it for 20 min in each direction at a moderate speed preferably on a figure 8. If you can't do a figure 8 you will need to flip the loco around after every 10 min.
The bag contains coal to glue on top of the tender.

You can also use the black powder as soot around the stack.  It's even useful as soot around the exhausts on diesels.
