I've read elsewhere that placing an aluminium foil "umbrella" or a more aesthetically pleasing stainless steel (mixing) bowl above the receiver can deflect any interference from lighting etc.

Broadway Limited USA uses traction tires as well as Bachmann on N scale steam and Proto (Walthers) steam. They are some of the best running engines still today and well worth buying.

I agree. I have a couple of Broadway Limited locos, one being steam with traction tyres and have had no problems with traction or performance. I'd put it up against any manufacturer when it comes to quality and price.

That's an interesting concept and one I may consider myself.
Here is the info I received from Bachmann when I queried them about using those two Dynamis connectors at the same time to power different sections of a layout rather than use a power distribution block.
They said it was fine provided I ensured I got the polarities correct to prevent shorting.
As far as programming locos, I just remove all but the one I'm programming from the track.

HO / Re: Double Oval - Powering track and turnouts

Good evening, and hello to all.  I returned to modeling this month. (I had an O scale Lionel as a child)

I will try to provide all revelavant info:
Regular Track = Bachmann N/S, in double loop. (inner is 18" r, outer is 22" r
2 x Bachmann terminal/rerailer sections
3 x Bachmann #6 DCC Single Crossovers (2x Left #44137, 1x Right #44138)
Bachmann EZ Command Wireless Dynamis for control and power
Attached track setup and noted terminals/rerailers location.

I have a similar Dynamis setup to you but on a much larger scale.
26" inner and 28" outer loops connected by a left and right crossover with four turnouts in the centre for sidings.
Running four DCC locos. All of this with one standard track/rerailer connection for power and no modification to the crossovers or turnouts, they are standard out of the box.
All my track has power just with this one terminal connection!

Quote....

Questions:
1.  Totally confused by differing included addressing directions on the #6 Crossovers vs.  Dynamis manual

The addressing instructions come with the Crossovers or any accessory for that matter.
I found them simple to follow having had no prior experience with DCC.

Quote2.  Does the Dynamis supply enough power for all my track + the 3 crossovers?

Yes, easily.

Quote(Ultimately, I would like to run two trains AT most at a time with current layout.)

I run four with no problems. Three of which have sound.

Quote2.  Since I haven't gotten the crossover's to work via DCC yet, what I want to know are both points thrown automatically? Or will I need to activate the crossover twice for rail change?

Both points activate at once on the Crossover.

QuoteI am totally lost on how to program/assign the crossovers. (I will watch some youtube, in the hopes there is some info there.)

Instructions should have come with them including specific instructions for the Dynamis system. Mine did.

QuoteNote: On running a double loop (18 and 22 radii). If I leave the frogs UNPOWERED as from factory/out of box, the inner loop doesn't get power. If I connect the small cable UNDER the #6 crossover, the inner loop is powered.

I had power to all the track, inner and outer loops via two crossovers and inner sidings via four turnouts without any modification. Worked out of the box.

Does the Dynamis DCC controller work with DC engines?

The controller doesn't alter track power so no it can't control DC locos. It sends a command to the DCC loco. DC locos can't receive that command and act on it.

The documentation I received with my Bachmann DCC Alco RS3 diesel says to check the User's Guide at www.soundtraxx.com and/or www.bachmanntrains.com for automatic sound functions.
It does say however that CV 197 selects which automatic sound functions are enabled.
It also says these are preset to activate to have automatic horns on forward, stop and reverse. The bell is suppose to sound automatically as well but none of these are on by default with my diesel.

Hey bachmann,

How about some curved nickel silver turnouts? Like with 33 and 35 inch radius

Yes please and in DCC as well.
While you're at it how about larger straight turnouts (DCC) as well.

General Discussion / Re: Programming the DCC Trunouts
December 13, 2013, 07:04:11 PM
This could be related to your loco programming.
On rare occasions I have had to reprogram all my turnouts after programming something else. I also intermittently have one particular turnout lose its' programming for no apparent reason :(

I have a couple of BLI locos I've programmed with Dynamis with no problems.
I've also programmed on the main track. I just make sure no other locos are on it when programming ;-)

BTW. AFAIK changing the name of the loco is superficial and doesn't affect anything in relation to its' operation.

General Discussion / Re: Smoke Unit
December 13, 2013, 06:30:52 PM
Yes, never let it run dry.
The instructions I have with my smoke generator is top up when the smoke thins out or turn the generator off.
On my engines this can be done remotely or by a physical switch on the loco.

Bob-

..... I do hope that you're able to build a permanent layout sooner rather than later as running on the floor leads to lots of problems over the long run. It's great that you can run three sound locos, too. I'm guessing they're all pretty new. You may have power capacity problems if you acquire any older locos, or even if you try to operate another engine.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                -- D

A permanent layout will never be an option for me. I'll be travelling a lot and will never be in one spot for too long and even if I do I'll be renting.
I will however be adding track feeders and possibly a booster as well if I get more locos. I intend expanding the layout with more main track as well (triple track), space allowing.

FWIW, I'm currently using a basic Dynamis DCC system with 112' of track covering an area of about 16' x 6' in a dual track format with sidings and 6 turnouts. I run 3 locos all with sound and because the layout is temporary and on the floor, I have just one feeder at this stage.
It runs fine :)

Not a great pic but you get the idea.

(Even with the [img] tags I can never get pics to show in the forum :(

Dear All,
We have a track cleaning car that works very well:

Is this link the only track maintenance vehicle available at Bachmann? .......

AFAIK that's it. I'm sure if there were others 'the bach-man' would have listed them.

My experience with the track cleaning car.
It has non-abrasive pads and you can buy replacements (2 pieces Item No 16949).
I've only used mine for about an hour of cleaning in total and no signs of wear.
The pad support in itself is weighted and floats so car weight is irrelevant but if you wanted to you can easily add weight to the car (and similar cars sold by Bachmann) by removing the tanker lid and add fishing sinkers. This works very well to help stop derailments and gives more realistic movement.
The way the pad is designed means it will clean in either direction. Great for sidings where you can run up and down a couple of times to clean dead end track.
The only minus in the design IMHO is the pads wear two grooves which means most of the (square) pad area is wasted when it comes time to replace them. A pad that could be rotated would be more cost effective.
BTW I bought my track cleaner at considerably less than RRP. Shop around as always.

I have one of these and it does work very well. I use it to augment my hand cleaning practices.
Particularly useful in hard to get areas like tunnels.
