General Discussion / My Fathers Collection
December 05, 2013, 05:34:53 PM
Not sure where to start.
Long story short, my father passed away recently and going through some stuff I found all kinds of trains, track, buildings, etc, etc.  I wish I had paid attention to them when he was alive and now feeling guilty I would love to do something with these.  The problem is I have no idea where to start.  I made a little circle with the track and hooked it up (correctly I hope) but not too successful at getting them running.  All together there are about 20 engines and a whole ton of cars to pull behind them.  I have been able to get maybe 4 of the engines running although very rough.  I have no idea what is wrong with them.
Most of the engines say Tyco on the bottom.  One says Bachmann.  I was told by the closest hobby shop to me (4 hours) that Tyco is no longer in business so if I need parts or service I am out of luck.  I have called Bachman several times today and left messages but can't get anyone to call me back.  I am getting very frustrated with not knowing how to proceed.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry the only thing I could find on the engine at all was Bachmann then on the side of it were the numbers 482.  Is there supposed to be a model # somewhere?
I heard that Bachman has a lifetime warrantee on engines, is that correct?  If so how do you get a hold of them?  I called several times today and just left messages but no one has called me back.

Ok lets try the img thing

How do I get the photos to show instead of just showing a link?  Is it possible?

No sorry.  I tried to upload a photo so you could see.  The wheel that keeps falling off (out) is the last Drive wheel on the left side of the engine.

Does the attachment button to upload images not work?  I see images on this forum that way exceed the 123kb that says is allowed but I can not get an image to load.  I do not have a photobucket account and really do not want one.  The note that popped up said to contact the admin.  Who is the admin and how do I contact them?

Thank you Don I really appreciate the reply.  The PDF was great.

I tried calling the company and the voicemail picked up and said they would call me right back.  I left a message with customer service over 2 hours ago but still no call back.  I called parts and got the same message so I left a message there as well.  Still no response.

I attached a couple of photos of the engine.  If you look at the wheel there is a little pin sticking out of it.  It doesn't look like the drawings.

(EDIT)  I actually tried to post the photo but it would not let me.  The file size is 119kb and it says the largest size can be 123kb so I do not know what that is about.

Hello
I have a Bachmann 482 engine and the back wheel keeps falling off.  Can someone tell me how the wheel (axel) is supposed to stay in?  I push the axel back in but it just comes back out right away.  Is there some sort of clip or something?

Thanks Jim I appreciate the reply.  I took a bran new one out of the box and it ran fine for about 3 min then started to go more slowly.  It started to run with a jerking motion.  I assume that could be from lack of use as well.  They have been in storage for about 6 years.

Sorry for the dumb question but what is ez TRACK?  How do I know what I have?  Also I have about 7 different transformers but how do I know which ones to use.  Sorry to hijack the thread.

General Discussion / Engines making noises

I have a bunch of train stuff that my dad gave to me before he passed away.  When I run the engines they make squeeling noises.  Do they need to be oiled or anything periodically? Is there some kind of maintenance I should do on these?  They have been sitting around for awhile.  Any help or tips are appreciated.

Thank you acy I appreciate your reply.  I am interested in what the value may be but I really would like to know what model they are.  For example one of the engines has a number 482 on the side.  Does that relate to some model number or just paint.  Is there a way to find out about the peices that are here short of taking photos of each one and sending it in?  When a train is ordered from Bachmann I assume there is some sort of number that goes with that train.  Is there no model numbers of any of this stuff.
I am surprised at the low cost of all that you mentioned.

Thanks again.

My father has a huge collection of trains and train stuff.  I know nothing about them.  How can I find more information about the trains and engins?  On the bottom of some of the engines it says Bachmann but no other numbers that i can find anywhere.  Any help finding out about these would be helpfull.  Thanks in advance.
