HO / 0-6-0 to 2-6-2 conversion
November 08, 2008, 03:00:26 PM
Dear Board,
I have the Bachmann Standard 0-6-0 DCC ON BOARD loco (I actually have 2).  I would like to convert 1 to a 2-6-2, or even a 0-6-2, or a variation of this...

Does anyone know the part numbers for their standard 2-6-2's that Bachmann use to sell?  If not Bachmann, what parts do you recommend that would be used?

Thanks for the help.

PS:  I would be willing to purchase any that are available on this board, if any are available.

HO / Removing Brass Clips on 0-6-0t board
October 27, 2008, 05:43:42 PM
Dear board,
I am in the process of wiring a decoder in this loco.  I have the instructions from the earlier forums and they are GREAT instructions..  But they all say to remove these brass strips that are on the Board.  For anyone that has put a decoder in this unit.  Do you just pull them off, or are they "hard" to remove?  I want to ask before I mess with the board.
Thanks for the info...

What decoder has been used in this switcher?  I would like to keep the weights if possible.  Is there a "board Replacement" decoder available?

HO / Bachmann DCC ON Board GN 0-6-0
October 23, 2008, 07:24:23 PM
I was moving this loco, and had not noticed before that it has the holes to be converted to a 2-6-2 or something??

Was this a loco that was used for something else and then "Made" for the DCC ON Board products?

If so......

General Discussion / Mantua Pacific - 1980's
October 18, 2008, 09:39:36 AM
Dear Board,
I was given a HO Mantua Pacific several years ago.  I want to order parts, and install a decoder in it.  I looked up the site for these engines, but there were 3 "Runs" in the 1980's.  Does anyone have any info on markings, or what I should look for to choose the right one?

This is a a metal engine, with a metal tender, if that helps.

HO / Simple decoders?
September 21, 2008, 02:31:01 PM
I have successfully taken apart a Rivarossi, 2-8-2, to put a decoder into it.  The unit is really simple, with a Motor and 2 leads for pick-ups.  I want to buy a real basic decoder to run the front headlight, and just the motor.  What is the type of decoder, and cheapest that can be purchased?  Digitrax is preferred, but not necessary.  I use the Bachmann EZ-Command system.

September 13, 2008, 12:03:07 PM
Dear All,
I have successfully installed this decoder in this engine.  I there are 2 problems though

1.  The lights turn on the opposite direction the loco is moving?
2.  The lights are REALLY DIM....??

Is this a decoder problem, or did I just do something wrong?  The lights go on and off as they are supposed to (#10 on EZ-Command station).
Thanks for the help!

HO / Crane boom retainer
August 23, 2008, 08:07:50 PM
I have several work trains with cranes and their tenders.  It seems that after several passes on the layout..  The booms move with curves of the track and not with the train!!!  This has caused several mishaps.  How has others corrected this issue?  IT have the boom move with the curves and back again as the track straightens out, or curves in the other direction.  If I leave the booms on the "deck" then it causes the cars to NOT run smoothly, and derail?!!!

Any ideas??

HO / DCC for Life Like Proto 2000 SD9
August 19, 2008, 02:59:42 PM
Dear All,
I know this is a Bachmann site, and if I could get answers through Walther's I would....

I have 2 Proto 2000 SD9s that I want to install DCC into (Pre-buy out production- 1998?).  I need to know if the motors are Isolated, and how to take off the shells.  I have looked for the original drawings that come with units, but to no avail....

If anyone has the original paperwork, I would ask if you could email it to me.  If someone has already installed decoders into these units, what ones worked, and are there instructions for this...
Thanks for the help!

General Discussion / E-Z Command Controller holder
August 15, 2008, 12:19:19 PM
MR. Bachmann,
Is there space in the top of this controller to put a pin or hanging device, so as to hang it on the fascia of the layout?

There is controller holders available for other brands.. (Digitrax; NCE)

I really do not want to drill into this unit, but do not want to keep laying it on the layout or on the control panel, either....
Plus it has a issue of throwing switches when I do... :P

I will also need to do this with the Walk around Companion at 2 locations.

Thanks for the help!

General Discussion / Diesel Re-railers
June 07, 2008, 01:27:09 PM
Dear All,
You think I would have noticed this kind of thing before...

I see in the current issue of MR that in the detaling of SP 70 Ton switcher, that there is a Rerailer built onto the foreward truck.  How does this work? Is this common on switchers, or on ALL diesels?

Are there other examples I could look at?

Thanks for the help!

HO / 1990's Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 (Bigboy) lubrication
March 29, 2008, 04:40:13 PM
Does anyone know the pariculars on lubing this engine?  I have started hearing a "whine" as this engine runs.  I lubed it from the underside.  There is 2 small gears visable.  This did not help.  I think it could be the motor bearings, but the instructions that come with the loco no not show the "breakdown".
Thanks for the help!!

HO / Switch shorting out on #4
March 25, 2008, 09:29:46 AM
Dear Board,
Now I know why I should have used other switches.....
I have an #4 Customline switch that has been cleaned to the point that it shorts out now!  It seems that the plastic between the frog points have dimminished .  The wheels make contact at the points and cause the DCC system to short.  This happens EVERY time an engine crosses the switch, while traveling along the main.  It does not short when the switch is thrown, and the engine diverges to the sideing!???  I think the cause is from the constant "Pad" on my cleaning boxcar.  I think I need to block the "Smallest" rail in the frog point,...  but do not really know how...

I have ordered a #6 turnout to replace it, but I cannot run any trains on the main until then....   :(
Any suggestion would be helpful!!

Thanks,

HO / EZ-Command Companion Connector panels
March 17, 2008, 01:53:56 PM
Mr Bachmann,
I have the Walk around Companion.  I have ordered #44908 Connector panels.  I see 2 (two) panels, in the picture, but are there 2 (two) connector cords, so one can use both of them?  If not, how does one purchase the "Extra" cord needed to use both of them?
