Hey Y'all;
finally took action on an idea that had been brewing for a while on how to give 4-wheel bobber caboose 3-point suspension so it will track (meaning stay on the rails) better.
A mostly simple modification to wheel holder at one end will do the job.
1. stock arrangement with no flexibility

2. remove wheels and metal holder
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa309/FSW4picts/G%20gauge%20projects/3%20point%20suspension%20for%20bobber%20caboose/IMG_2834.jpg)
3. cut slots in floor and round off middle
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa309/FSW4picts/G%20gauge%20projects/3%20point%20suspension%20for%20bobber%20caboose/IMG_2835.jpg)
4. attach metal holder with screw in middle
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa309/FSW4picts/G%20gauge%20projects/3%20point%20suspension%20for%20bobber%20caboose/IMG_2836.jpg)
And now axle at one end can rock a bit over uneven track.
Making your Conductor and Rear Brakemen much happier.
;D
So after all this time, did the mod work ? ???
Looks like a simple fix.
Thanks for posting it.
Sean
Works quite well. Or at least it doesn't cause any trouble.
Memorial Day evening, and June 3 model RR club get together, another one done same went round-and-round on Mike's garden railway just fine for a couple hours.
Gimme a minute and there will be images.
Did Glenbrook Valley caboose same way and added home made marker lights.

Nice work, I did mine a little differant I just removed the existing screws got 1" long screws and slipped some small compression springs onto the screws then screwed them in where the existing screws would go the springs push down on the wheel mount to hold it in place but also allow it to move up and down.

Oooo, may have to figure out how to come up with another caboose just to try that 8)
What A diff.!! :o
I got to pull it around with my 0-4-0 side tank porter.
This time I did not need a idle car.
So YA it was worth doing. 8)
